Quite a few journalists and pundits on social media found it âremarkableâ earlier this month that former president George H.W. Bush had broken with the Republican Party and endorsed Hillary Clinton for president. A Bush voting for a Clinton? Amazing!
The breaking âexclusiveâ claimed by both CNN and Politico caused quite a stir, but we at Twitchy werenât quite so impressed. The âendorsementâ came via a Facebook post by Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, daughter of Robert Kennedy, appended to a photo of her posing with Bush at a fundraiser. âThe President told me heâs voting for Hillary!!â she wrote, employing even more exclamation points than Jeb Bushâs campaign logo.
Maybe he is voting for Hillary, maybe he isnât, but letâs just say a Facebook post didnât really convey the gravity that a formal press release would have. It seems we might have some common ground with Jeb Bush, then, who didnât employ any exclamation points when commenting on the incident, but was clearly displeased with how it was handled.

Bush suggests that his fatherâs age and health might have played a part in the endorsement, which initially comes across as a little desperate; then again, the man certainly knows his father better than we do.
But spreading the word on Facebook like a pre-teen Hillary fangirl? That did seem inappropriate.
@jordanjfrasier @JebBush Fair point, Jeb.

@jordanjfrasier @JebBush I actually agree with that

@jordanjfrasier @mmurraypolitics @JebBush I agree with him. It showed no class for her to do that.

@jordanjfrasier @juliawb @JebBush Frankly, I also thought the way she did this was inappropriate & disrespectful.

@jordanjfrasier @BuzzFeedAndrew @JebBush I agree with Jeb! It was in poor taste.

@jordanjfrasier @BuzzFeedAndrew @JebBush I think Gov. Bush is right. If Pres Bush had wanted to make a public statement, then he would have.

@jordanjfrasier @JebBush well said Jeb, your family is a class act.

Check out that last tweet ⌠Jeb and his exclamation point reunited â something we never thought weâd see.
