It’s no secret that a lot of Democrats haven’t been happy with the job Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz has been doing as party chair. CNN senior political reporter Manu Raju suggests that Sen. Harry Reid was attempting to do something about it, approaching Sen. Dick Durbin as a possible replacement.

Raju writes that after the disaster that was the Nevada Democratic convention, where the nasty split between Camp Hillary and Camp Bernie was punctuated by Sen. Barbara Boxer wagging a finger at Sanders supporters who booed her, “Democrats on Capitol Hill grew increasingly nervous that the same episode could play out at the Philadelphia convention this month.”
Durbin confirmed to CNN that the possibility of him taking over as party chair had been floated but that “nothing came of it.”
Reid floated Durbin as an alternative to DWS to alleviate tensions w Sanders; Durbin told me he wasn't interested. https://t.co/6DL6g9vSRA

Tensions with Sanders peaked in May, when he announced that he was throwing his support behind Wasserman Schultz’ primary opponent, Tim Canova.

It’s been said a lot here, but as much attention as is paid to the split in the Republican Party, Democrats aren’t exactly the picture of unity either.
Lifelong Dem but will not contribute to party again until DWS out as DNC Chair @CNNPolitics https://t.co/pTciilIoC1

Editor’s note: The original version of this post stated Boxer was “flipping the bird” at Sanders supporters during the Nevada Democratic Convention. Boxer’s press secretary sent us this link which shows the senator was using her index finger and not the middle finger, so the text has been corrected accordingly.
