As Twitchy reported earlier, Sen. Harry Reid was eager to help Hillary Clinton out of the fire by arguing that if Clinton were indicted for having classified material on her personal email account, then Colin Powell would have to be indicted too, now that State Department officials have revealed that classified information was also sent to the personal email accounts of former Secretary of State Colin Powell. Senior aides to former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice are also said to have had classified material in their personal email accounts.

Two messages reportedly were sent to Powell’s personal account, and 10 to Rice’s senior aides.

The reaction of many? Get back to us when you find Powell’s unauthorized, personal home-brew email server with its own domain. Attorney and writer Gabriel Malor had another concern: What was the State Department doing investigating Powell’s email while blowing off a court-ordered deadline for Clinton’s emails?

The State Department, under court order to release thousands of pages of emails by January 29, explained that due to the snowstorm that hit Washington, D.C., it would need another month to come through with the goods; coincidently, some time after the New Hampshire primary.

As of last night and CNN’s Democrat town hall, Clinton was still blaming that relentless vast right-wing conspiracy for any scandal you might like to name.

Maybe Bernie Sanders will mention that during tonight’s debate with Clinton?

  • Pardon Me ✓

    Inconvenient, isn’t it.

    • Andrew

I’ll agree to go after Powell for his 2 classified emails and Rice for her 8 if you agree we should go after Clinton for her 1300-and-counting, and that the penalties be meted out proportionally. What do you say?

      • Acuda4me ✓Please!

Had the laws making it illegal even been passed back then?

        • Aparition42

Yes. It would fall under the auspices of removing classified material from its designated area. It doesn’t really matter if it’s email or scrolls. The law even lays out punishment for a person entrusted with classified material who loses classified material accidentally (up to ten years in prison). Although the claim here is that Powell received classified emails. If he handled that spill correctly then he’s done nothing wrong. If not then he’s guilty, and should be prosecuted.

The fact that anyone thinks people will change their mind because Clinton used the “but they did it too” defense is really telling about how much they care about the rule of law. They’re such partisan hacks, that they can’t conceive that everyone else isn’t. Why the heck would anyone think we should give Hillary Clinton a pass just because some other politicians were also guilty?

          • Karla1953

Yeah but his were left on gov’t servers he said as much…………………so it seems that they needed to find something and this is what they were doing with the extension of time. I mean it took them this long to realize this………………….GMAB this is called cover HRC’s azz……………EOS

          • Aparition42

Oh, I totally agree. But it isn’t totally about covering Hillary. Hillary is only one of hundreds of people that could be affected by this. This is a warning that they’ll try to take as many with them as they can.

The people who care about the rule of law don’t care about party, and they know that. This is a warning to the lifer politicians that no one is safe. “Come after me, and I’ll come after you.”

        • interestedobserver2

The sections of Title 10 US Code dealing with classified material have been in effect since the start of the Cold War, if not earlier…

    • teamfrazzled

No. I expect officials to actually keep their oaths -not use the excuse “but Jimmy did it too” as if that means everyone walks away scot free. If Rice and Power broke the law, prosecute them. But we all already know they did nothing on the same level as Hillary who belongs in prison for deliberately betraying the trust of the American people and put her own best interests before that of the nation itself. As usual. Now she expects to be rewarded with MORE power after proving she couldn’t be trusted with the power given to her in the past? My skin crawls at the thought.

I’m reasonably sure that whatever private email Powell and Rice used had a much more secure server than Hillary’s. That’s kind of the point here. Mishandling classified data is a crime, of course, but a big reason everyone’s up in arms about Hillary’s email scandal is that she brazenly left vital information on something far less secure than your average Google account. Couple all that with the simple fact that Hillary actively tried to cover up her wrongdoing. You could say it’s so simple that even a far left liberal could get it, but those guys are pretty damn stupid.

    • Karla1953

Oh and then there is this

Additionally, Powell said he never kept the emails in his possession when he left the State Department. Unlike Clinton, Powell’s emails remained in government computer servers

An aide to Rice, who now teaches at Stanford University, said that Rice herself never used email — not even a personal email account — during her tenure.

And THAT is the 64 thousand dollar question. But we know the answer. They play by a different set of rules.

If Congress can engage in insider trading without repercussion, it’s all we need to know.

If an IRS manager can infringe on the rights of certain Americans to enjoy equal treatment and retire with a generous pension those same Americans now have to pay for, it’s all we need to know.

If a Congressman can drive off a bridge and leave a woman to drown without reporting it until the next day and serve in the Senate until he finally dies, it’s all we need to know.

If a Congressman has a long relationship with a male hooker who runs a prostitution ring out of your own basement and walk away scott-free to serve in Congress until you decide to retire, it’s all we need to know.

There are a lot more, but these are enough to know that some animals are more equal than others.

        Rome is burning.

Talk about…………….. oh look there is a squirrel

Mr. Powell, in a telephone interview, strongly disputed the department’s designation, saying he had reviewed the two emails with the inspector general’s office and responded incredulously, “What are you talking about?” The emails, he said, were sent by two career ambassadors and forwarded to him by his executive assistant, something he encouraged for important or urgent matters.
One involved a kidnapping in the Philippines, the other general views on the situation in the Middle East. Both, he said, were now considered “confidential.”

“That is an absurdity,” he said. If two seasoned diplomats could not discuss their views with the secretary in unclassified emails, he said, “we might as well shut the department down

Ms. Rice, now at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, was not available to comment, but her chief of staff, Georgia D. Godfrey, said that she did not use email or have a personal email account while secretary. She noted that the inspector general said the email in question involved “diplomatic conversations” sent to her assistants and contained “no intelligence information.”

Well you did not seem to have a problem with them indicting Powell in the other thread LOL.
Honestly though I see this as a real apples & oranges with the Hillary thing. For one Powell left all of his emails on the gov’t server that makes one wonder why it took all of these years to find it and then re classify it. Also what kind of non disclosure did they sign at the time and what procedures etc were in place. Also it seems that not only was Powell pro-active about going round with the IG(and disclosed what was in them/HRC did not)he has issued a statement saying this is bullshit. As far as Condi it has already been stated that there was not a shred of “intelligence” in her staff’s stuff just diplomatic stuff. Clintons cannot be revealed until 2036………………….not hearing the same for this lot JMO though as I am no expert and not trying to play one on the Twitch 🙂

The Democrats’ New Game: State Goes Back and Retroactively Classifies Emails Sent to Powell’s and Rice’s Personal Accounts, So They Can Say “Everybody Does It”

Then they leak this to Hillary Mob Lawyer Elijah Cummings, who in turn passes it on to the media.

    Keep pushing it, guys.

The interesting thing here is that State can classify, or declassify, information originating with State. But they cannot classify, nor declassify, information originating with another service, like the CIA or NSA.

Hillary is claiming that State “disputes” the CIA’s and NSA’s determination that the information she was passing around was top-top-secret. Shockingly secret. State is disputing this on her behalf — but they have no such power to classify or declassify CIA or NSA information.

State does, however, have the power to retroactively classify emails originating from State — such as an Ambassador sending Colin Powell an email — and that, I say, is what they have done. I can’t prove this — but I know this. They are picking out some innocuous emails and saying “Those are now classified” in order to provide cover to this disgusting vulture they’ve already been providing cover to.

Colin Powell suggests as much — at least that these are perfectly innocuous, being falsely claimed to be classified.

In a statement, Powell said the two emails he received were not judged to contain confidential information at the time they were sent to him by American ambassadors.

“I wish they would release them,” Powell told NBC News, “so that a normal, air-breathing mammal would look at them and say, ‘What’s the issue?'”

The issue is that the government is now engaged in an illegal conspiracy against the entire country. The entire government is now simply a criminal organization.

      • Notsure

“Yes, we have no bananas, but we’ve got lots of debt today!”

  • Aparition42

Ok, here’s the conspiracy theory. In 2008 the DNC and the party supporters clearly indicated that they didn’t want Hillary Clinton to be president, but Hillary has been deeply entrenched in the D.C. machine for a long time. She has serious dirt on everyone. A few years ago, with the support of the feminist wing of the DNC, Hilary demanded the nomination and threatened to take them all down if they didn’t back her. Joe Biden clearly wanted to run, but for some reason felt that he couldn’t.

The problem, though, is that they never had any confidence in her ability to win. If she doesn’t, she’ll be a two-time loser with no chance of running again. What’s going to keep her from just taking everyone she can down out of spite? So out of nowhere, the Obama administration starts leaking bits and pieces of a scandal that’s either nothing, or punishable by decades in prison. The email scandal is a leash to keep Hillary under control. If she doesn’t release all the ammo she has stored up, then the investigation can just go away.

The problem is, that only works if the next President is willing to play along. They can charge and acquit her, or even convict and pardon her and she won’t even lose her government retirement, but what about all the people that sent and received those emails? That’s not just a few low-ranking aids. We know John Kerry is on the list. President Obama has used “executive privilege” to block the release of some emails, so he’s in the firing line too. How many people are currently living in fear of one of the “outsider” candidates winning?

Wouldn’t it be beautiful if the next president believes in the rule of law? Imagine if Hillary Clinton actually does go down and takes as many corrupt, D.C. lifers as she can with her. The question then, is which Republican candidate is actually willing to facilitate cleaning out D.C., and which ones have too much dirt of their own in the mix to risk such an event.

  • freeinaz

I distinctly remember a news story on Powell when he first started at state. The press was complaining about getting information. According to Powell he had shut down the State Department communications systems because to paraphrase “We walked into a security nightmare from the previous administration. That system was a national security risk and will be replaced.” “I will be using my prior secured DOD system until we get a secure system at State.”

There is a big difference between having some of your communication being from a personal account and having intentionally set up a private server with your own private email address to conduct ALL your government business.

And hosting / storing all the data (that out of necessity had to contain classified information) on an unsecured private server.

The server is the problem. And secondarily that she used a private email address with the apparent reason of trying to thwart FOIA requests / disclosure.

  • rodlang
