Christmas 2015 is history, and so are the 24-hour marathons of “A Christmas Story” on TV. While that might come as a great relief to many, at least one author thinks that the 1940s-era story of young Ralphie and his quest to own a Red Ryder B.B. gun needs to be pulled from broadcast in the wake of the 2014 Tamir Rice shooting.
If Tamir Rice should not have been playing with a toy gun, then networks need to stop airing "A Christmas Story." pic.twitter.com/5DOUOcj8uu

So, is there a valid parallel between the film and the real life tragedy of 12-year-old Tamir Rice?
@NewGodLo @DrStaceyPatton @MichaelAWoodJr name one cop Ralphie pointed the gun at. Pretty sure he was in his own yard not a public park
— Joe kane (@kaneacepst33) December 29, 2015
@kaneacepst33 @NewGodLo @MichaelAWoodJr Just be honest and say that you too want to kill a black child.
— Stacey Patton (@DrStaceyPatton) December 29, 2015
That, um, escalated quickly, as they say.
@DrStaceyPatton @aaronsimpson Playing with a toy gun? Reality check That's not what anyone would call playing

@DrStaceyPatton @aaronsimpson That's called posing for a picture

@GaryGw69 @aaronsimpson Whitesplaining cognitive dissonance. Whatever you need to soothe your racial consciousness.

@DrStaceyPatton @aaronsimpson Have to go get a dictionary and watch some NASCAR

@chaisonmiklich Would you ask the same question in this instance? Or does the gun only look real in black hands? pic.twitter.com/BqAiJI9rG3
— Stacey Patton (@DrStaceyPatton) December 29, 2015
@DrStaceyPatton such a pathetic argument from an intellectual person. Behavior is an action learned that creates a reaction, socially. #?to?
— Ronin™ (@LCMee24) December 29, 2015
@LCMee24 You sound so obtuse. Judging by your logic you clearly are not an intellectual person. Just another troll.
— Stacey Patton (@DrStaceyPatton) December 29, 2015
@DrStaceyPatton @ambitiousbylaw The problem with this analogy is that Ralphie almost shot his eye out. Not exactly a pro gun message.
— Boxing Charley (@BoxingCharley) December 29, 2015
@BoxingCharley @ambitiousbylaw You obviously don't get the point.
— Stacey Patton (@DrStaceyPatton) December 29, 2015
@DrStaceyPatton @ambitiousbylaw Oh I got the point & I support it. But I don't like clumsy analogies from people who tend to not do research
— Boxing Charley (@BoxingCharley) December 29, 2015
Dr. Patton appears to have left the building at this point, but that didn’t hamper the debate.
@drstaceypatton @eminchew Yeah, but that kid is white.
Oh, right.
— Steven White (@stevenjwhite) December 29, 2015
@DrStaceyPatton @OTSWST Yet white children who play being armed are not innately (if inadvertently) playing a threat to white supremacy
— Owen R. Broadhurst (@OwenRBroadhurst) December 29, 2015
@DrStaceyPatton @Joi_the_Artist But that glasses kid is white tho so it checks out with current practices.
— Nibz (@MichaelPallante) December 29, 2015
@MichaelPallante @DrStaceyPatton Yes, that was pretty much the point.

@DrStaceyPatton @YourAnonNews not sure where in the movie the kid was walking around the city with a gun?
— Underground Designs (@UGD216) December 29, 2015
@DrStaceyPatton Please enlighten us on the part of the movie where the character pointed the gun in a park full of people @andieiamwhoiam
— USAF_KC97 (@USAF_KC97) December 29, 2015
@DrStaceyPatton @bryberg was Ralphie put pointing it at People In a public park? No? Oh ok…
— W (@w66425) December 29, 2015
@DrStaceyPatton @YourAnonNews Ralphie was playing with it in his backyard. Not in a public park in a notoriously gang related neighborhood
— bfm (@charles_a_cox) December 29, 2015
@DrStaceyPatton @YourAnonNews what if the problem wasn't playing with the toy gun, but pointing it at strangers?
— Sam the Nanti-SARRMM (@Nanti_SARRMM) December 29, 2015
@DrStaceyPatton @jennaemoran Yeah, it's not like we can expect (some) people to raise their kids to know when and where it's appropriate.
— Derrick Andrus (@Chubb6570) December 29, 2015
@DrStaceyPatton did you see video of what that boy was doing? Maybe if he had a father to emulate he wouldn't have played Gangster that day.
— Ronin™ (@LCMee24) December 29, 2015
@DrStaceyPatton Most cops know what a Red Ryder looks like, Tamir was brandishing what looked like a .45 missing its orange safety tip.
— William Knowles (@c4i) December 29, 2015
@DrStaceyPatton @YourAnonNews he was pointing it at the cops. And didn't listen to them. It was a tragic accident. Don't take awy frm others
