Incredible shrinking #NationalDayOfProtest flies under radar; LA crowd fills several parking spaces

It was a big day and a small day for the #BlackLivesMatter movement. At a forum on criminal justice reform Thursday, President Obama insisted that the movement be taken seriously, especially given our history as a society. The hashtag even enjoyed a coveted appearance in an official White House tweet recapping the president’s remarks.

There’s no question that Hillary Clinton’s Benghazi testimony ruled the day, though, overshadowing the president’s forum as well as the Oct. 22 #NationalDayOfProtest. The official website #BlackLivesMatter activists used to coordinate their activities shows protests and marches scheduled in just about every state, but tracking down media coverage is a challenge.

The march in Los Angeles looked cozy in comparison to previous protests.

This is the first we’ve heard of a protest “going smoothly.”

Yes, he said “crowd” again.

Now this is a crowd. It’s also a photo of the 2011 march, not today’s.

Fortunately, someone in St. Paul remembered to bring a camera.

The streets might have been relatively quiet today, but that doesn’t mean the #BlackLivesMatter movement hasn’t been heard in Washington, D.C.
