We don’t remember Donald Trump saying anything more controversial than usual lately, and Ben Carson has been the one in the media’s hot seat for his comments on a theoretical Muslim president. So it’s strange to see Trump going from a crowd of around 20,000 at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas last week to a half-empty ballroom in North Charleston, S.C., this afternoon.
Trump’s appearance at the annual meeting of the Greater Charleston Business Alliance and South Carolina African American Chamber of Commerce was free to the public but held at a venue fit for around 1,200, with priority seating going to those attending the full three-day conference. This wasn’t a Trump rally by any stretch, but many were amused to see the GOP front-runner speaking to such a small group.
Ohio Gov. John Kasich is scheduled to speak to the same group this Friday.
