Good news from EPA head Gina McCarthy: The EPA is still hard at work cleaning up the #GoldKingMine spill, which released a million gallons of toxic wastewater into the Animas River, and the agency is learning from the incident. Lesson 1: Don’t trust the EPA not to release a million gallons of toxic wastewater into the river, or secretly dump 15,000 tons of hazardous waste down a mineshaft.
It seems a shame to interrupt her education, but 19 House members have introduced a resolution to impeach McCarthy.
The Dallas Morning News reports that the resolution accuses McCarthy of “perjury and making false statements before the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology.”
Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) spells out the specifics behind his impeachment effort on his website after this introduction:
On numerous occasions, Gina McCarthy not only broke the law by lying to Congress, but in doing so she also lied to the American people in order to force misguided and overreaching regulations, which have no scientific basis, down our throats. Her agencies new mandates will kill hundreds of thousands of jobs and cause untold economic harm to communities throughout the country. She must be held accountable for violating the rule of law and the only way for that to happen is through the impeachment process.
