Emilio and Gloria Estefan, Carlos Santana and Shakira will be among the musical artists featured later this month on the song “We’re All Mexicans,” which is meant to “send a message that represents unity,” said Estefan.
It’s not a direct retort to Donald Trump’s campaign kickoff statement that Mexico was sending its rapists, criminals and drug dealers to the United States, Estefan noted. “We need to lift up our pride and show the world what we’re doing.”
Obviously “We’re All Mexicans” is meant figuratively. The Estefans were both born in Cuba, and Shakira is Colombian. But no matter where you were born, you’re a little bit Mexican too, right?
