The Harris County Sheriff’s Office held a press conference at 5:30 Eastern to update the media on the suspect in the assassination-style killing of deputy Darren Goforth, who was shot from behind multiple times while putting gas into his cruiser.
Shannon J. Miles was taken into custody last night as a person of interest and questioned.
Sheriff Ron Hickman today said that police had recovered a handgun, and ballistics tests matched it to the crime.
Hickman repeated his suspicion that Goforth was shot simply for being a law enforcement officer.
