Gov. Greg Abbott awards Texas Medal of Honor to families of Chris Kyle, Lt. Col. Ed Dyess

Gov. Greg Abbott today posthumously awarded the Texas Medal of Honor to the families of “American Sniper” Chris Kyle and World War II pilot Lt. Col. Ed Dyess. The medal is the state’s highest military decoration.

Kyle, the deadliest sniper in American military history, was tragically gunned down in 2013 by Eddie Ray Routh, a veteran with post-traumatic stress disorder. His wife Taya attended the ceremony.

The Dallas News reports that Ed Dyess was a World War II pilot who survived the Batan Death March. He died in California in 1943, and in 1956 Dyess Air Force Base was named in his honor.
