The vote to remove the Confederate flag from the South Carolina State House grounds easily passed the state Senate this week, but as expected, the debate over the flag in the House is a bit more contentious.

A recently introduced amendment to replace the Confederate flag at the State House with a solid white flag to be known as the “Unofficial Flag of the South Carolina Republican Party” suggests that debate could drag on a bit.

It’s fair to say that some proposed amendments to the legislation are a bit more serious than others. Maybe TV Land, former home of “The Dukes of Hazzard” reruns, could change its logo to a solid white flag?

There’s certainly no lack of public interest in what ends up on that flagpole, or what happens to the flag once it comes down.
