Washington Post political investigations reporter Rosalind Helderman tweeted on Monday that former President Bill Clinton has said he gives “a lot” of his income from giving speeches to the Clinton Foundation. He’ll keep giving speeches even as Hillary runs for president, he told Today, because “I’ve gotta pay our bills.” So which is it? Does the money go to charity or toward the mortgage?
Helderman links to an April 22 piece in which she notes that Bill Clinton “was paid at least $26 million in speaking fees by companies and organizations that are also major donors” to the Clinton Foundation — about a quarter of his income from speeches between 2001 and 2013.
