@gabrielmalor it is LITERALLY WORSE THAN GUANTANAMO

Wow, that’s bad. As we learned from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, not even the solemn playing of the National Anthem is reason enough to put away your iPhone if you’re a reporter trying to stay connected. It’s 2015 after all — that’s how reporters take notes now.
Of course, the Supreme Court remains the exception, and reporters covering today’s oral arguments over same-sex marriage are hurting for their electronics.
Funny- Supreme Court briefed reporters going inside- they don't allow "e-cigarettes" in the court because they are "electronic devices"

What it's like covering SCOTUS arguments: sitting on reporters behind a gate (engraved with acorns), listening hard bc you can't see. #why

Now I understand why ppl are pushing so hard for live-streaming SCOTUS arguments. It's like Downton Abbey in there.

“It feels like it’s 1850 or something.” — @jbendery on covering Supreme Court oral arguments for the first time

Location aside, it is easier to cover military commission hearings in Guantanamo than Supreme Court oral arguments.

In GTMO, you can sit in a room — with a computer and Internet access! — and watch a video live stream of proceedings.

At SCOTUS, you can have a terrible view from a tiny seat or sometimes listen to just audio downstairs. Pen and pad only either way.

On big cases, whatever you scribble down is valuable for a like an hour before audio and transcripts are released.

There's literally a typewriter in the Supreme Court press room, which feels very appropriate.
— Ryan J. Reilly (@ryanjreilly) April 28, 2015
@ryanjreilly a quill and ink as well?

@WRyanMcCann @ryanjreilly Probably a teletype machine, too.

@ryanjreilly Maybe just maybe by next year they can upgrade to a dot matrix printer #SupremeCourtDreams

I should add: Supreme Court press staffers are super nice and helpful. But the entire system just makes absolutely no sense in 2015.
