Talk about a softball “question” — that wasn’t even a powderpuff question — but we’re sure President Obama didn’t mind the ego boost as he hosted a town hall event at Benedict College in Columbia, S.C., Friday afternoon. The overriding theme of the event was supposed to be the economy and youth opportunities, but the president, on his first visit to the state, couldn’t stop himself from confusing global climate change with something called “the weather.”

We hadn’t stopped to consider that the oceans will start rising again once the Obamas check out of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

This was a strange moment that couldn’t help but make us think of Jen Psaki and Marie Harf.

Asked why Ferguson, Mo., police officer Darren Wilson wasn’t charged by the Justice Department, Obama stuck by Attorney General Eric Holder’s official report, and even found a word of praise for police officers in general.

When questioning turned to guns, though, the president reverted to his standard set of straw men.

Where are these places where it’s easier to buy a handgun than a vegetable? Certainly not the same neighborhoods where the citizens (goaded by the NRA, obviously) are lobbying to carry machine guns into bars and arm kindergarteners.

It’s his specialty.
