When Mitt Romney announced in a conference call this morning that he would not be running for president in 2016, it didn’t take long for his prospective opponents to offer their respect and best wishes.

While the pundits argue what exactly Romney meant by “fresh leadership,” an elder statesman weighed in on Romney’s decision.
