Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey is famously a vegetarian. (For proof, check out his shopping list when, as mayor of Newark, he took the Food Stamp Challenge to argue for a “just and sustainable” food system in the United States.)

A takedown of the Union of Concerned Scientists is worth a post of its own, but today’s controversy surrounds Booker’s next tweet and his use of the word “schizophrenic” to describe the nation’s spending on food subsidies.

Booker seems to have taken the criticism to heart, retweeting cautions and complaints from followers.

It wasn’t only the use of the word that was up for criticism.

Subsidies aren’t the only thing allegedly out of proportion.

And much less first lady.
