’s Kristin Tate alerts us to an op-ed published in the Georgetown University newspaper this week that we almost wish we’d not heard about. The headline — “I Was Mugged, and I Understand Why” — is quite the tease, so why were senior Oliver Friedfeld and his roommate mugged at gunpoint? White privilege, duh.

Friedfeld writes:

When I walk around at 2 a.m., nobody looks at me suspiciously, and police don’t ask me any questions. I wonder if our attackers could say the same.

Who am I to stand from my perch of privilege, surrounded by million-dollar homes and paying for a $60,000 education, to condemn these young men as “thugs?” It’s precisely this kind of “otherization” that fuels the problem.

So the police stopping and questioning the attackers who mugged you at gunpoint would have fueled the problem? David Limbaugh and his followers struggled to make sense of it all.
