Just 10 minutes before tweeting that Michael Brown was an “unarmed boy,” GlobalGrind editor-in-chief Michael Skolnik had referred to Brown more precisely as an “unarmed black teenager” — a young teenager at that.
One week ago a young unarmed black teenager was killed by a cop in Ferguson, MO. His name is Mike Brown. pic.twitter.com/YRVtz6Ymxl

“Teenager” is certainly appropriate, but some thought it a stretch to refer to the 18-year-old Brown as a “boy.”
Boy? BOY?! MT @MichaelSkolnik At the end of day, an unarmed boy was taken from his mom…

@exjon @MichaelSkolnik They're trying to act like Webster was the one killed here. Mike Brown was no saint. #OldTVReference

@MichaelSkolnik We have to remember that #MikeBrown was 18 y.o. and therefore more appropriate to refer to him as teen or young man.

@exjon @MichaelSkolnik I guarantee you that NO ONE would have had the guts to call him a "boy" when he was alive.

.@exjon That's odd. Legally Brown is an adult. Weighing 250 pounds & was over 6 foot is no child.@MichaelSkolnik

@exjon I noticed "boy" was OK to say again, sometime during Trayvon news cycle. Not sure if memo was promulgated fully or not.
