The winning candidate in the Oklahoma special senatorial primary needed more than 50 percent of the vote to avoid a runoff, and it looks like Oklahoma Rep. James Lankford has 56 percent of the vote locked up.
For clarity we are waiting just a bit longer to declare Lankford winner WITHOUT runoff.

The closest runner up by a wide margin is Tea Party favorite T.W. Shannon, who so far is commanding nearly 35 percent of the vote. The next closest challenger among the five remaining has only 5 percent of the vote.
Lankford leads Shannon, 55-35, with 32 percent of the votes reported in #oksen. Needs over 50 percent to avoid runoff

No Tulsa No Runoff RT @CahnEmily: Shannon is losing his home of Tulsa to Lankford 49-37. Does not bode well for Shannon's chances #OKSEN

Lankford is just totally cleaning up tonight. With 16% reporting, he leads TW Shannon 56-35. (if he keeps it up, that'd avoid a runoff)

Early returns look good for Lankford to win #OKSen GOP primary outright. Has 75% in base of OK County & leads Shannon 49-37 in Tulsa.

With more results in, Lankford beats a runoff race.
