We called it last night — just as we learned that “creepy ass cracker,” in the context of the George Zimmerman trial, isn’t necessarily racist and perhaps even a compliment, today brings another vocabulary lesson. Alec Baldwin’s wife Hilaria, defending her husband against charges of homophobia, would like her followers to click over to Gothamist and learn that “toxic little queen” isn’t a gay slur in her husband’s culture. Alec Baldwin explains:
Number two, the idea of me calling this guy a “queen” and that being something that people thought is homophobic…a queen to me has a different meaning. It’s somebody who’s just above. It doesn’t have any necessarily sexual connotations. To me a queen… I know women that act queeny, I know men that are straight that act queeny, and I know gay men that act queeny. It doesn’t have to be a definite sexual connotation, or a homophobic connotation. To me those are people who think the rules don’t apply to them.
Wow, good thing he cleared that up! That, along with the suggestion that reporter George Stark would actually enjoy Baldwin’s boot entering a certain orifice, had a lot of people concerned. GLAAD is OK with Baldwin’s explanation, though, as are most “rational people.” What’s really offensive is suggesting Alec Baldwin is homophobic.

@hilariabaldwin most rational people know or at least can sense, he's not homophobic. That word was used a lot back in our day. I'm same age

@hilariabaldwin Anyone who has followed Alec's career and pubpositions on social issues knows he's not a homophobe. It's an offensive claim

@hilariabaldwin Ignore the PC brigade. Not worth stressing over. Everyone knows he isn't homophobic. He's a good man. Best to all 3 of you x

So, we can all use that word now?
@hilariabaldwin Do you hear yourself? No one cares if u have gay friends. His remarks were clearly uncalled for.
