The story of a solider “officially counseled” for his choice of reading material didn’t escape the notice of Sarah Palin, who took to Facebook today to invite American citizens to show their support by posting photos of themselves holding “liberty-loving books.” As Todd Starnes reported yesterday, Master Sgt. Nathan Sommers, a conservative Christian and veteran member of the U.S. Army Band, was told repeatedly that his choice of backstage reading material — including books by David Limbaugh and Mark Levin — was “offending other soldiers” and disrupting his unit.
Palin’s statement reads, in part:
I’d love to see more of America’s finest, our men and women in uniform, along with everybody else proudly and boldly reading more writings from patriots who pinpoint who is trying to kill our Constitution. Americans obviously need to know why it’s imperative we don’t roll over and succumb to these attempts to fundamentally transform America into a populace of sheep merely grazing, and then atrophying, under tyranny.
Palin set the example with two photos of her holding books by Mark Levin — a choice heartily endorsed by the author.
We’re especially happy to see the photos roll in just a day after MSNBC host Touré warned of the “dangerous path” set by conservative talkers Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Michael Savage and Rush Limbaugh. Palin’s followers provided an amazing range of material, from Ayn Rand to Thomas Paine to Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn.
Speaking of a dangerous path…
Some are starting young…
…while others are starting really young.
