No, these are not photos of child killed in Boston Marathon explosion

As Twitchy reported earlier, while most of us were still trying to recover from the shock over news that multiple explosions had ripped through the finish line at the Boston Marathon, a few were busy setting up fake Twitter accounts promising donations to victims in exchange for retweets. Now that we’ve heard the tragic news that an 8-year-old was killed in the blast, people are being asked to retweet photos of the “victim.”

No, this is not a photo of the Boston Marathon. It was taken at a 5K held last May to raise money for families of sick children. A team of Newtown parents did run the marathon today, but all were reported safe, having finished the race before the blasts occurred. And the child killed was reported to have been a boy, not a girl. And no, it wasn’t this boy.

The photo of the girl has been retweeted nearly 40,000 times today, while the second photo is nearing 10,000 retweets. Mission accomplished?
