Politico is reporting today that Sens. Rand Paul, Ted Cruz and Mike Lee will hand-deliver a letter to Sen. Harry Reid’s office tomorrow promising to “oppose the motion to proceed to any legislation that will serve as a vehicle for any additional gun restrictions.” Reid assured constituents that he would allow a floor vote on an assault weapon ban once the Senate returns from recess, although it would have to be added as an amendment to the approved gun control bill, which focuses on background checks.

Paul’s 13-hour filibuster of John Brennan’s confirmation as CIA director was a massive PR success, so why not try it again with gun control, especially since Cruz and Lee have signed on as well? The idea has a lot of support.
