Ace, others call out Sen. Evie Hudak on effort to keep guns from women in 'their best interest'

The Denver Post today reports that Colorado state Sen. Evie Hudak apologized to rape victim Amanda Collins in private for remarks she made at a hearing on Colorado’s campus gun ban last night. After Collins recounted her sexual assault at gunpoint in a campus “safe zone,” Hudak told her that “chances are that if you would have had a gun, then he would have been able to get that from you and possibly use it against you.”

Hudak said that while she feels terrible for what Collins and other rape victims have experienced, “I am actually really looking out for their best interest.” For her part, Collins told the Denver Post that she didn’t know “how genuine” Hudak’s apology was, and Ace of Spades and others didn’t find Sen. Hudak’s argument convincing either.

Denver University constitutional law professor Dave Kopel wasn’t buying the “best interest” line either and took Hudak to school.
