The Left has been pretty quiet about abortion for the last several months, despite beating that drum loudly and frequently in the election. Perhaps it's because all they do is lie: they lie about anti-abortion laws harming women, they lie about women 'prosecuted' for 'miscarriages' (when the reality is far different from the narrative), and they turn a blind eye to the harm chemical abortions do to a significant number of women.
But just because they're quiet, doesn't mean they've forgotten or given up the fight. Abortion is the closest thing the Left has to a secular sacrament, and they'll stop at nothing to defend and promote it.
Which is why they're spreading a lot of unscientific information about what is and isn't an abortion, in an attempt to normalize it as just another medical procedure.
Shortly after the election, I wrote about an ophthalmologist and TikTok doc, who argued that any procedure that 'terminates a pregnancy' is an abortion. This includes the C-section deliveries I had when my sons were born.
As a pro-life woman, I find this claim not only wrong but deeply offensive. There are no circumstances under which I would have an abortion, and giving birth to my sons was not -- nor will it ever be -- an abortion.

But the seeds of a new narrative are planted, and it's not just delivery of a baby that's now an 'abortion', according to the Left.

This is so tiresome.
An abortion is the 'deliberate termination of a pregnancy, resulting in the removal or expulsion of the fetus or embryo from the uterus before it can survive outside the womb.'
Words mean things. Medical terminology is important.
The removal of a cyst from the uterus is cystectomy or myomectomy (depending on the kind of cyst), not an abortion.
Somewhere around five to ten percent of American women undergo surgery to remove ovarian cysts (roughly 8.4 to 16.8 million), while some 600,000 women had uterine cysts removed (or hysterectomies due to uterine cysts) between 2005 and 2013.
In 2024, there were approximately one million abortions in the U.S., according to the Guttmacher Institute.
The Left tried (and failed) to circumvent state-level anti-abortion laws in January, when outgoing president Joe Biden attempted to unilaterally amend the Constitution by X post, claiming the Equal Rights Amendment was now the 28th Amendment.
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand let that cat out of the bag when she took a victory lap on January 17:
This is an incredible moment for reproductive freedom, and a historic day for equality – especially with Americans facing the further degradation of reproductive freedom as the incoming administration takes power.
Now, women living in states with restrictions on their reproductive freedoms can – and should – file suits to overturn these unconstitutional laws that discriminate on the basis of sex. I know they will have ample support as they seek justice, and I promise to stand by their side in this fight.
Thankfully, so far, judges have rejected legal arguments based on the non-existent 28th Amendment.
So the Left regrouped, and the new attack is to fundamentally alter what we call an abortion. Because this young woman didn't magically come up with this argument. She learned from somewhere the asinine argument that 'abortion' is anything involving the uterus, and she isn't the only one making this argument.
By classifying cystectomies, myomectomies, and the delivery of babies (whether natural births or C-sections) as abortions, the Left is seeking to greatly expand the number of women for whom 'abortion is healthcare' (as they always argue it is) and use those inflated stats to push back against states' anti-abortion laws.
We must put an end to this Orwellian usurpation of our language, not just to protect our laws and the unborn but to stop the disinformation that leads young women to think any medical procedure is an 'abortion.'
