Dear NYT: It's Not 'Silly' to Hold Donald Trump and Kamala Harris to the Same Standard, It's YOUR JOB

Journalism meme

There was a time I wanted desperately to be a journalist. My undergrad and graduate degrees are in English, with an undergraduate minor in Professional Communications and a graduate focus on Professional Writing. But then I got married, had kids, and the thought of traveling to Afghanistan or Iraq to cover a war became less appealing.

I remember, very clearly, how adamant my undergrad journalism professor was about objectivity. So much so, she said she believed journalists should abstain from voting to remain as objective as possible. I'd love to pick her brain today about the current state of journalism.

Because how far its fallen in the last two decades; had I not given up my journalistic dreams to care for my family, I'd have had to quit the profession i protest for what it's become.

Look no further than this absolutely asinine statement from Mara Gay of The New York Times editorial board:

Why, exactly, is it 'silly', Mara?

Well:

"I think the challenge, not just for journalists, but really for the country, is that not only is Donald Trump a threat, but, you know, it lowers the bar. So I don’t think it’s unacceptable. And I think it’s important for our role as journalists to really push every candidate for office," Gay said.

"And there are plenty of things that we could hear from the vice president that we’d love to hear more about policy speeches," she continued. "It’d be great to see her take more questions from the press. Those things are important.

"It’s just the context is difficult because of the extremism of the Republican Party, because of how extreme Donald Trump is, it’s hard to hold both candidates accountable equally, because one is committed to democracy and is functioning as a normal candidate from a normal American party, and the other is not.

"And so, you know, this is really about the extremism of the Republican ticket. And it’s important to hold all candidates accountable. It’s just that when you do that, it does sometimes sound a little silly, because given the breadth of what the vice president is offering the American people, there is no comparison with Donald Trump," Gay concluded.

Wow.

I really have no words for this.

Wait. Actually, I do.

I'll start by rejecting the entire premise of Gay's argument: Donald Trump is not a threat. He's the choice of at least half the nation. Mara Gay may believe he's a threat, but a significant portion of the country has a different opinion. But it's not a fact (it's an incitement to violence, but I digress).

Also, what is the 'breadth' that Kamala is offering the American people?

If Gay can't answer that question, it's because Kamala hasn't done many interviews and the 'breadth' of her policies is paper thin. She has no platforms on her website (but a boatload of pronoun choices), and the policies she held in 2019 have been largely walked back by anonymous campaign staffers.

But we -- you and I, dear readers -- know the 'breadth' of what she offers:

Gay won't admit this though, because it would destroy Kamala's already limping campaign. Kamala is trying to run as a centrist, but it's a cynical ploy to get votes.

Is that the 'breadth' of what she's offering voters? A dishonest campaign?

I am beyond tired of the 'Trump is a fascist dictator!' rhetoric. I had those concerns in 2016 and after he won, it became very clear those concerns were unfounded.

Trump was not a fundamental threat to freedom. He was not a dictator.

He will not be a dictator if -- when -- he's reelected in November.

So just stop.

And DO YOUR JOB. If Kamala Harris is better than Trump, offers more in terms of policy for the American people, then she should have no problem withstanding scrutiny from the media.

Yet the media seem content to run puff pieces on her while she pretends to be on the phone to avoid their questions. To try and scrub her record as border czar and the fact she was the most left-leaning member of the Senate.

They will destroy every remaining fiber of their credibility -- and that shroud was threadbare to begin with -- because ORANGE MAN BAD.

And Mara Gay just reaffirmed that.

This is why trust in the media is at an all time low. They -- and by 'they' I mean the journalists, publications, and networks -- have one job. That job is to report facts, as truthfully and objectively as possible. They have stopped doing that in favor of being the propaganda arm of the Democratic Party.

Survey after survey of national newsrooms shows journalists are more liberal -- nay, Leftist -- than the American public at large. They vote and donate to Democratic candidates and causes a vast majority of the time.

It is reflected in all of their reporting. It is, for example, why they can attack Nancy Mace and Donald Trump as 'racist' and 'sexist' for mispronouncing Kamala's name but don't hold themselves to the same standard despite also mispronouncing it repeatedly.

And circling back to what Gay said: it's not an objective fact that Trump is a threat. Saying so makes reporting biased and -- dare I say it -- misinformation?

You know, the 'disinformation' and 'misinformation' the media. so often decry. Then they clap like the obedient seals they are when Kamala says she'll use the DOJ to censor speech online.

Then they act like our moral and intellectual superiors.

The American public sees this. The American public knows the media have one goal: help Democrats.

Given recent polls, they are failing at that, too.

But, by all means, Mara. Say it's 'silly' for the media to hold Kamala to the same standards as Trump.

The joke's ultimately on you.
