Apparently, Rolling Stone does not train its editors in crisis communication. That, or maybe Senior Editor Christian Hoard fell asleep during that meeting.
Just to review: When your magazine is in trouble for glorifying a murderer on its cover, the proper response from senior editorial staff does not include obscene jokes issued (and promptly deleted) via Twitter.
