As we mentioned earlier, President Obama has chosen Judge Merrick Garland as his pick to replace Justice Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court.
Judge Garland is considered to be “pro-cop” by some, which evidently is some sort of new litmus test for Black Lives Matter protesters. Here’s NY Daily News justice writer and Twitchy regular Shaun King:
I'm not a big fan of Merrick Garland.
Pretty conservative dude – particularly harsh record on criminal justice.
Maybe that'll help him.

Would be genuinely ridiculous for the GOP to block Garland. He's damn near a Republican. As conservative as a Democratic nominee will be.

Yeah, I think I'd be OK with conservatives stale-mating on Merrick Garland.
He's a terrible pick on criminal justice reform. A setback.

Good summary from Vox on Garland.

So, without support from the far left, is Judge Garland’s nomination dead on arrival?
Schumer now: "If Merrick Garland can't get bipartisan support — no one can."

Hatch adds to his statement: 'I think highly of Judge Garland. But his nomination doesn’t in any way change current circumstances.'
