The Hill is making headlines this morning with a headline of their own suggesting that Donald Trump is “open to special ID for Muslim-Americans”:

Except that’s not what he said.
The Hill is reporting on an interview that Trump gave to Yahoo News and here’s the exact exchange that generated The Hill’s bogus headline:

So it was Yahoo News' suggestion, to which Trump did the Trump thing because he's not so smart: he punted. https://t.co/y55UOzZ6lk

And the exact wording wasn’t in The Hill’s rewrite:
And, again, if the Hill is going to put it in the headline, it could at least put it in the story. https://t.co/y55UOzZ6lk

The Hill's decision to invent a Trump proposal is weird, because he already says so much legitimately crazy stuff.

Hey, we get that not everyone is a fan of Donald Trump. But accuracy matters, especially if you’re going to insinuate something this ugly.
