Much is being made out of a Politico story this morning on Republican leadership in the House and Senate skipping the commemoration ceremony for the 50th anniversary of the civil-rights march in Selma, Ala.

Yes, John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, etc. won’t be there, but it’s not like the entire GOP is avoiding the event. Politico buried this fact near the end of their piece:
Still, a number of rank-and-file Republicans are attending. Sen. Tim Scott, a South Carolina Republican, is a co-sponsor of the event along with Rep. Martha Roby of Alabama. Scott is the first African-American Republican elected from the South since the end of Reconstruction.
Roby’s office said Thursday 23 Republican House and Senate members are registered to attend the pilgrimage.
Former President George W. Bush and wife Laura will be attending, too.
But the damage to the GOP, in part thanks to Politico’s headline, has already been done:
