The Washington Post’s Wesley Lowery helped Vox falsely link the two:

Any claims that the “hands up” gesture from demonstrators in Hong Kong are inspired by Ferguson protesters aren’t true:

But after he was called on it, Lowery continued to defend the position:

It isn’t inaccurate reporting, it’s just that people are reading it wrong. Got that?
