The Federal Election Commission has asked Sen. Harry Reid’s campaign for more information on more than $16,000 in “holiday gifts” given by the senator to donors and supporters in 2013. The law requires that itemized disbursements include a brief statement or description of why each disbursement was made.
Jon Ralston of Ralston Reports confirmed that the money went to Ryan Elisabeth Reid, Harry Reid’s granddaughter, who is a jewelry vendor in Berkeley, Calif.
Ralston concludes that even if the FEC does “its usual dithering and wrist-slapping, many will wonder why Reid needs to use campaign funds for holiday gifts to give to supporters and donors and why he enriched his granddaughter in so doing.”
