PBS’ Tavis Smiley set off critics earlier today when he declared that President Obama’s statement today on Trayvon Martin and racial profiling was “weak as pre-sweetened Kool-Aid.” That was just the warm-up act, though. Now, race-obsessed Salon has at last weighed in with its verdict on the president’s speech, calling it “overrated and airy,” and writer Rich Benjamin reserved his praise for Eric Holder, whom he suggests is unafraid to appear as the “angry black man” in the administration.
What’s another way to put it? Writes Benjamin:
Some of us have an Inner Child. Others have an Inner Nigger. Is Holder the president’s conscience? Or his Inner Nigger?
Yes, Benjamin is a black man, and Salon is as liberal as it gets. So, free pass, right?

@Salon mocks Trayvon Martin's murder, insults POTUS and AG Holder, calls Holder the n-word. Congrats Salon, you're the new Drudge Report.

@Salon is a bastion of left wing racism. But then, it's the house @joanwalsh helped build, so that explains it.

So I see people tweeting at me about the @Salon piece. IDK what Rich Benjamin was thinking, but negates all of his other writing on the site
— ProfB (@AntheaButler) July 20, 2013
But … President Obama has a complex double consciousness. That’s a compliment, right?
What black person doesnt understand duality/double consciousness? Legit Q: Does Holder embody PBOs complex double consciousness? @Salon
— Rich Benjamin (@RichBenjaminUSA) July 20, 2013
@richbenjaminusa naw Rich, I can't go with you on this one. Especially after today.
