This afternoon, we learned the real reason that the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay is still open, more than five years after then-candidate Obama pledged his commitment to closing it: it’s Congress’ fault.
He says congressional restrictions on transferring Gitmo detains "makes no sense."

"…there is no justification beyond politics for Congress to prevent us from closing a facility that should never have been opened."

It’s all politics! Obama’s ineptitude and habit of making promises he knows he can’t or won’t keep have nothing to do with it!
It's like Obama hasn't been President for 5 years or something #Gitmo

@FrankyLamouche Obama had Democrat control of both houses of Congress when he signed the order to close Gitmo in 2009..Try again #Derp

.@whitehouse Hey Obama, remember when the Democrats controlled both the House and Senate. Why didn't you close Gitmo then?

Which is why I left it open. RT @nprpolitics: Obama: GTMO has become a symbol around the world for an America that flouts the rule of law.

So I guess it's Bushes fault too that Obama hasn't closed Gitmo after 5 years…

Whoever has been President since 2009 really should have closed Gitmo. It would have spared Barack Obama so much angst.
