While many responses to the unexpected announcement of Pope Benedict XVI’s resignation were downright vile, a handful showed some restraint, choosing instead to suggest a conspiracy at work. Among the highest-profile “pope truthers” were “real journalist” Piers Morgan, subject of a phone hacking scandal, and Soledad O’Brien, who’s been caught reading printouts of liberal blogs on the air.
