About the only time Obama wasn’t exaggerating or mischaracterizing the “state of the union” tonight was during his recounting of the profound sacrifice that Army Ranger Sergeant First Class Cory Remsburg made for our country. His touching story resulted in thunderous standing ovation from the chamber that outlasted any applause President mompants received.

From the White House blog:

US Army Ranger Sergeant First Class Cory Remsburg has met President Obama on three separate occasions — once overseas and twice since a roadside bomb in Kandahar, Afghanistan on his 10th deployment left him in a coma for three months, partially paralyzed and brain-damaged. He currently endures six hours of occupational, physical and speech therapy per day, and his father, Craig, along with Cory’s step-mom Annie, is the caretaker by Cory’s side as he continues his recovery…. A native of Arizona, Sergeant First Class Remsburg joined the Army on his 18th birthday after Craig refused to sign the papers for the 17-year-old Cory to join on his own. Sergeant First Class Remsburg says “I won’t give up.” Sergeant First Class Remsburg has been awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.

Reaction on Twitter was just as laudatory, from both sides of the aisle:

Some also had some pointed jabs about this portion of Obama’s speech:

God bless you, Cory, and thank you for your sacrifice.

I saw him as I was flipping through the channels.
I kept flipping because I naturally assumed this was Obama using our heroes as props again.
Glad to see that it was Cory getting well deserved props instead.
    Thanks for your service Cory.
I hope your recovery is faster and far more real than America’s economic recovery.

    • RblDiver

Well, O WAS using him as a prop, then got annoyed at how he was being much better received than O was, and had to draw everyone’s attention back to President Me.

  • poljunkie♪

God Bless and thank you for your service.

  • Chip

    I’ll say it again….

    • John Castigo

As a Combat Vet, (11Bang-Bang), I like to use the words of Col. Nathan Jessup from A Few Good Men: (paraphrased) I would prefer you just say Thank You and leave me the hell alone!

      • Ranger555

John, as a 11Bravo, I remember Jessup’s real comment of ” or grab a weapon and stand POST ( if we want to protect our country). God Bless.

        • Rob Shepheard

I was a SARC for Marine FR for 5 years…served in the desert the 1st go-round. At least we had a President who knew what is is like to serve and to be in combat…and who cared about those of us on the ground with AKs, RPGs, and t-72s with real men operating them; trying to kill us… Obama has no idea what we went through and are going through…and he really couldn’t care less.

  • nc ✓s & balances

TEN deployments? A true warrior and hero. Hopefully, our country will once again be worthy of such sacrifice. God Bless you, sir.

  • Michael Anderson (WB)

Didn’t even have to scratch this leftist to find a Nazi.

  • Clete Torres

10 deployments. TEN. That’s selfless service to your country.

SFC Remsburg, you are a true American hero.

  • Clete Torres

  • LR99

He shouldn’t be standing there with POTUS! That’s a disservice to all our wounded heros given how the obama administration has treated our troops and especially considering we now know for a fact obama didn’t believe the Afghan surge but instead decided to gamble with the lives of our troops!!

    • SpaceRacer423

I understand your point, but Im going to alter it a little.
Sergeant First Class Cory Remsburg deserves to be standing there with the president. He is an extraordinary solider and being mentioned at the STOU by the Commander and Chief is a high honor.
The person who shouldn’t be there is Obama.
Its his presence that is a slap in the face to those who serve,
not just by his actions, but by the American public who witnessed his actions and re-elected him.

      • Clete Torres

        I’ll go one step further:

Neither the president nor his America-hating wife deserve to be standing next to SFC Cory Remsburg. They have done nothing to deserve such an honor as to be in the company with an American soldier and warfighter of this caliber.

        • LR99

          I’ll agree to that!

Re: “…thunderous standing ovation from the chamber that outlasted any applause President mompants received.”

And who stopped the applause before it ended so he could continue his false and self-congratulatory speech? Well, you know…

  • Jake Wilde

A great warrior of course. He had no business being at a #SOTU used as a prop.

  • John Castigo

A true hero. A role model for generations. But shame on Obama for using him as a prop. Shame on you.

  • Clete Torres

    Seil Heil, jackwad. Flagged again.

    EDIT: In response to a now-moderated anti-Semite.

    • SpaceRacer423

1st, thanks for flagging ralphie’s comments.
2nd, did you react with laugher or disgust at the second one?
It was just so over the top and cartoonish that I actually struggled to be offend.
It was honestly like seeing a lone klansman in full hood and sheets still pretending its 1953.
At that point the ridiculousness trumps the hate.

      • Clete Torres

I just shake my head and consider the source. Idiots will be idiots.

        • SpaceRacer423

looks like the mods deleted Ralphie.
You may want to modify your response to him as it now lacks the context of his comment.
I’d hate for some troll to screen capture without context.

          • Clete Torres

Done. Thanks for the heads up.

          • SpaceRacer423

#FLOTUS brought a wounded US Veteran to the #SOTU, while a republican brought a “reality” TV duck guy… #Prioties

Aruana/Melissa: who did you bring to Mandela’s funeral?

    • Noah

or maybe it was because michelle O wanted people to think she was finally proud of her country as an adult?! are you sure flotus invited him? just because he was seated next to her doesnt mean michelle sent the e-vite.

    • SpaceRacer423

FLOTUS also brought a gay ex-NBA player who never once played while “out.” So yeah, priorities. Turns out FLOTUS gets to give out more invites than random members of congress.

    • lan

Wounded for what, the ego of the narcissistic tin horn dictator? Nothing but human props. Sickening display.

    • yourmamatoo

Who was harmed because of her husbands negligence.
The phoniness of the Obamas is disgraceful!

    • Stephen Henry

Here’s a modified one that is going around Twitter.

  • cmerlo1

He’s a far better person than anyone else in that room.

  • H50 ✓RAT

Thank you for your service Sgt. Remsburg. We owe you a debt of gratitude that we can never repay, but shall endeavor every day to try.

  • Wayne_

I can’t believe those in congress had the audacity to applaud him after they all just voted to stab him in the back by reducing his pension…F**k all of them. Thank you Cory for your service. Well done.

  • Mae

If you notice, Obama kept the applause going, (clapping next to the mike.) He wanted the focus on Michelle, standing next to Cory, it wasn’t about Cory at all. Our POTUS is a POS. Bless you Cory

  • Rob Shepheard

The only thing Obama said that was true were his comments about the valor and dedication of my brother in arms…something I can’t call Obama because he was too busy smoking dope, snorting coke, and being a “community organizer” (which is another way of telling people who bad the Gov’t was treating them…only to treat Americans worse & make our lives next to impossible to live once he became “Dictator (and liar, Marxist, and overall Anti-America) in Chief” He’s a fraud who’s every policy has caused nothing but harm to America and to her allies…..as well as appointing a Sec of State that allowed Americans to die when there was a chance to save them (which has been documented). Obama used this great soldier and patriot as a prob

to take away from his absolute failure to do anything but weaken our nation and make life worse for the vast majority of Americans, I am NOT a Republican or a Democrat. I am a combat vet and a very proud & patriotic American who is heartbroken at what the media & Democrats have allowed Obama to get away with doing with so much as a peep. He’s attempting to steer America toward a Marxist country. If you disagree with that statement, research his goals, programs, statements, and the laws/executive orders he has pushed through…oh yeah, and take a look at what an absolute disaster our healthcare system has become.
