Muslim rapper Lupe Fiasco caught a surprise when a target of his vitriol retweeted his sentiment about the George Zimmerman trial:

glenn beck RTs lupe fiasco

Fiasco was kicked off the stage at an inaugural party earlier this year for criticizing President Obama. Ironically, the song that got him into so much trouble included the lyric, “Glenn Beck is a racist!” Happily, Beck seems like the forgiving sort.

While he hasn’t always been the most rational progressive, Fiasco is one of the few celebs who commented on the Zimmerman trial with an intellectually honest understanding of the rule of law and how it must judge guilt based on evidence, not emotion.

  • Steven A

Lupe’s understanding of the justice system far outshines his peers. Also, his acknowledgement that African-American urban gang culture needs far more change than the verdict of the Zimmerman case is illuminating, mostly in the vitriol he’s taken for his opinion.

    • napalm

He was on Bill O Reily last year or something

  • KansasGirl

    You’re in good company Lupe.

  • Christine V. Waldron

Most conservatives appreciate any celeb who resists the urge to pile on with politically correct rhetoric and slogans. Offering a dissenting opinion from what is popular shows that you are intellectually honest and think as an individual. Respect to Lupe Fiasco for that.

    • IBXNJ

I may not agree with him on a number of issues, but I can RESPECT his honesty!!

  • Probably Geoff

Lupe isnt your run of the mill rapper. He tries to further himself and society, rather than just be a product of his surroundings. That said, he’s still a liberal Muslim, but I have respect for his lyrics. They are far from the Money/Drugs/Hoes crap.

    • iconoclast33

It is hard to get my head around the concept of a “liberal muslim”. Islam is very strict in what you can and can not do, in nearly every area of life. It doesn’t really jibe with modern progressive liberalism. They are not accepting of GLBT’s. Or drinking. Or doing drugs. Or women (except for procreation and punching bags). I’d bet they are not pro abortion either. By liberal standards, that’s the very definition of conservative. lol

  • sandyaz

And Glenn Beck is laughing his arse off on this one giving the young man a bit of mental gymnastics.

  • Sara Nichols

Lupe, you are better than Minaj!!

    • Texan357

Talk about damning with faint praise. 😉

  • Damien Johnson

    Love this guy.

  • Jill

Hopefully, if this young man is interested in ascertaining facts before making claims, he will invest in a free two week trial of The Blaze. Beck’s handling of racial issues, frequent guests of many races, and the talent he hires are all the evidence one needs to determine that the term ‘racist’ does not apply.

  • Zathras11 @B5

Four BLACK children (ages 5-16) died in Chicago during the Zimmerman trial. Do any liberals care?

    • Keith

No, only if a WHITE HISPANIC killed them in self defense

    • HWarrior13

Yeah, why doesn’t our White Black president address that ?

      • Karl Winrich

Very simple reason: It doesn’t fit his agenda of stir up the black American community to hate white Americans.

It’s not part of the Alinsky strategy which BHO is using to superb effect to divide our nation.

        • HWarrior13

          True enough. My bad, Karl

      • hosss

This is not anything other than a diversion for all the scandals and crimes that are going on in this Administration. It is working.

  • BlahBlah

Well I gotta say these past few days have been absolutely phenomenal. Now we know that the ONLY thing that can whip roughly half of this country into an outright frenzy is racism (real or imaginary) and only against black people.

Y’all realize that if Casey Anthony showed up with a bullhorn and a “justice for Trayvon” or some such sign she’d be hailed as a hero by these drooling idiots.

    • jb

Correction: it is only the imaginary type that whips them into a frenzy. Feeds their fantasy world of the victim.

  • VerminMcCann

Here we go again. A leftist loon says something vaguely sensible and the right proclaims its love for him.

    • Joel A. Edge

Common sense from leftists is so rare. That makes it special.

      • HWarrior13

As in one of those short buses some “special” students ride?
        That kinda “special” ?

    • jumper297

It’s called intellectual honesty. Nobody is inviting him to tea party events, but if he’s right he’s right.

      • VerminMcCann

No. Intellectual honesty may require giving credit where due, and, frankly, that’s overstating it–there’s no intellectual obligation to state your agreement every time someone says something you agree with. However, intellectual honesty does not require slobbering fanboyism or credit for views not expressed. The right has a horrible problem with doing that–our fawning over Roseanne’s imaginary support for gun rights is a recent example.

        • HWarrior13

You’re really like a dog with a bone on this issue.
“May” be time to move on, Vermin

          • VerminMcCann

Good lord. I made a simple comment and responded to several of the replies, nothing more. And, by the way, my comment had nothing to do with Beck’s retweet. It was in response to and in anticipation of the reaction to the statement itself.

          • HWarrior13

Now you know what it feels like when one over reacts 😉

          • VerminMcCann

I didn’t overreact. I made an single offhand comment. I’ve seen it happen over and over again–Ice T says something supportive of gun rights, suddenly conservatives love him; a week later he’s calling us racists. Roseanne says women should be armed for protection against rapists (but says nothing about the Second Amendment rights of men). The next thing you know she’s joining the call to lynch George Zimmerman, and a commenter on this very site is assuring me that she’s nonetheless a “staunch supporter” of gun rights. Something similar happened with Mick Jagger’s shot at Obama over the eavesdropping scandal. Frankly, I think the fact that anyone outside of New Jersey knew who Chris Christie was prior to Hurricane Sandy is another example. That was my only point, and I’m far from the first one to make it.

    • bnchy

Unlike the loony left, we need to give credit anywhere credit is due

      • VerminMcCann

The issue is not giving credit where due; it’s giving far more credit than is due.

        • HWarrior13

I don’t believe Beck proposed marriage. I think he just retweeted something.

          Settle down, please, Vermin.

          • Martha

I think you are naive to think that credit is due to this man who will turn around tomorrow and crap all over Glenn Beck and anyone else who isn’t singing his tune.

          • HWarrior13

You seem to be confused, Martha
My comment is in regard to Vermin’s over reaction to Beck’s action. It has NOTHING to do with what Beck or the other guy tweeted.
Care to take another swing at the ball, dear ?

    • Mickey O’Brien

You know what they say. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

      • kewee

Mickey may I say that was Brilliant “THANK YOU ” (Y)

    • iconoclast33

I don’t think it is proclaiming love… more like proclaiming astonishment when a proggie says anything outside the norm we have come to expect. It is refreshing, like a spritz of cold misty water on a hot day, but just as fleeting.

  • dwok

Hopefully it begins a process for Lupe. Maybe he will attempt to disseminate the lies being told by his progressive peers and start digging for the truth. You have to begin somewhere.

  • disqus_eric

    “rational progressive” ???
    A bit oxymoronic, dontchaknow?

    • HWarrior13

  • Eric Lee Shively
  • Jess LeAnne

I had to read that a couple times. I wasn’t expecting a thoughtful and knowledgeable comment from a celebrity. Maybe there’s hope yet…nah…

  • Trylogic

I think that as much as anything, it gave Beck great pleasure to make Fiasco aware of the fact that he was on the same plane of reason that he was.

  • Magnifico

    They’re both douchebags

  • tenndoug911

Even a blind hog finds a grain of truth every once and a while.

  • David Atherton

I can’t say I ever agreed with a rapper about anything, but when you’re right, you’re right.

  • HWarrior13

Even a broken clock is correct twice a day.

  • michael

once i was blind, now I can see. BHO and HOLDER are intentionally trying to divide us.

  • John Galt

It’s what separates the compassionate conservatives from the loony liberals: we have the ability to forgive and see things beyond the color of a person’s skin.

  • BeeKaaay

Reasonableness from a leftist. This is refreshing.
