Many citizens are understandably uneasy when it comes to Bowe Bergdahl. Just when you think the situation can’t get any worse, another shoe seems to drop. Did the White House really do “the right thing” when it traded five Taliban leaders for a suspected deserter?

Tweeter @CuffyMeh can’t help but be reminded of another big swap that didn’t end well:

Ha! Fake, but accurate.

We’ve got to laugh so we don’t cry.

For many years while working her way up through the hierarchy of upper education, she claimed she was a minority – American Indian (this gets the university some extra money from the federal government for hiring minorities and she got promotion priorities) and she based this claim on the fact she has high cheek bones. The latter part of the comment is the fact that we consider the Indians to have been cheated by selling the land that became New York for 54 dollars worth of beads.

You know, it is hard to explain irony to someone without a funny bone.

$24 worth of beads wouldn’t even get you a coffee date with V. Stiviano.

    • brainy37

Actually it would. Glass and metal beads were super rare or non-existent to many tribes. By today’s standards it would be like aliens visiting and having colored diamonds that sparkle and glow in the dark on their own. Or and emerald that acts like a mood ring and has holographic images inside.

The most ironic part is not the beads but rather the fact that it was sold for items that would let this bunch of guys get lucky with the girls back home. Stiviano got a car, the Native American girls got the beads. They probably all had the same reaction too.

    • Pendog

  • therealguyfaux ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

The deal wasn’t as one-sided as you think.

The Indians who sold the island were not even the ones who lived there– those Indians lived on the opposite end, the north end of the island (Spuyten Duyvil, where that deadly train crash occurred several months ago, detailed on these pages). The Indians who “sold” it were actually giving up their “right” to hunt there, i.e., they were agreeing to stay off the island and stay on Long Island. Trouble was, they didn’t actually “hunt” there. But the Dutch West India Company either didn’t know that, or else didn’t care– just so long as they didn’t have any trouble with the natives.

A lot of government programs today are similar– just throw some money at the problem, whether the people receiving it “deserve” it or not, and hope problems go away. The Indians were just a few hundred years ahead of their time.

If one lowlife deserter is worth as much as 5 of their top people imagine what the price would be for an honorable soldier. Shows that even the Taliban are, deep down, aware of what worthless scum they are.

The most common illusions conjured up to justify today’s collectivist central planning and coercion include “social justice”, “fair” income distribution, and stopping “global warming”.
