You can probably count the number of times we’ve agreed with Patton Oswalt on one hand (or maybe one finger). But we firmly believe in giving credit where credit is due, and this time, Oswalt got it right.

The comedian can’t help but notice the P.C. crowd’s growing desire to silence dissent, so earlier today, he shared a new piece by conservative author and commentator Mark Steyn:

Oswalt is no conservative by any stretch of the imagination. But he quickly got a taste of how “politically incorrect” conservatives are regularly treated by lefty speech police:

Here’s a taste of the blowback:

https://twitter.com/Keenith23/status/456444746882240512

Oswalt, if you’ll recall, has duked it out with Salon a few times over political correctness.

Moving on:

But remember: Lefties are the tolerant ones.

Their cognitive dissonance is stunning,.. they want you fired, smeared attacked publicly disgraced and completely shut out of any livihood for simply what you say….

But tben screech in outrage, “we” don’t know what free speech is when called on their fascist habits?

Well, their definition is pretty stark, 100% agreement with their ideology, no nuances, or subtleties permitted.

it’s clear who here is epically stupid about free speech. They want the trappings of a democracy with the machinery of a Soviet State, with them in charge for all eternity of course…

Insanity,.. or sheer stupid poli-sci leftist group tnink, they could hardly be worse fascists if they tried.

First rule of the left, history is what we say it is, today, subject to revision. At some point, the left really does become its own self-parody….and the cool thing is that they NEVER even realize it!!

      • therealguyfaux ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

The problem is that they’ve possibly dulled the wits of those they’ve indoctrinated to be able to see it. Sort of like the Common Core mathematics approach to political science– jumble everything up so badly that nobody grasps whatever meaning there may have initially been in any of it, till someone trying to figure it out throws their hands up in despair.

      • Marie

You’re doing a piss poor job of it.

Often having the mob turn on you is the first step in realizing that you no longer want to be part of the mob.

    • therealguyfaux ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

You become what Andrew Sullivan defines himself as (but which he may not actually be), an “Oakeshott Conservative”– someone who might even have positions possibly the Left might find congenial and more traditional Conservatives could find repugnant, perhaps, but one who has the cojones to tell the Left that, as much as they might think they have a corner on the market of intellectual heft and moral rectitude, that they’re basically asshats who really don’t know how the world really works, and that they should shut up and stop bothering everybody, especially him.

Our Patsy may be fast be approaching this stage, to do what he did– RT’ing Mark Steyn in order to troll the Lefties so as to make his point.

    • Evan Dickinson

Its also often the first step in becoming part of that same mob that turned on you.

      The next step is “repentance”.

The final step is vilifying those who were once just like you to fit into the new mob.

  • Heather Atkinson

A Conservative is sometimes a Liberal who’s been mugged.

Oswald proved to have a mote of intellectual honesty by agreeing with and re-tweeting a Steyn piece ( I LOVE Mark Steyn ). Now the character assassination by the unread, unwashed, uninformed and generally unkempt may just knock Patton over the edge into reality-based world view.

He’s said conflicting things on the issue, though…and my feeling is that if he got serious about running as a Republican, all he’d need to do is spend about an hour with John Lott or Wayne LaPierre (who could explain to him how tens of thousands of people, especially children, are NOT showing up in ERs around the country because good people are able to defend themselves, thanks to the PROLIFERATION of guns, not the confiscation of them, or undue restrictions on their purchase.) Two million people a year, Dr. Carson…!

Your stupidity is astounding. Never have I met someone so utterly stupid. I bet you smell like crap, because people as stupid as you probably can’t even wipe their own asses – not that I’d know, being intelligent to know that a government shouldn’t spend money it doesn’t have.

So condescending yet lacking the intelligence to have a right to be condescending – perfect assessment of a dunce like you.

      • Ogrrre

Do you really want to go all “grammar police” here? There are too many instances, from both left and right, where “it’s” is used as the possessive of “it”, too many instances of using “their” or “there” for “they’re”, too many instances of “towing the line” rather than “toeing the line”, too many instances of “you and I” when using the objective case.
It would be nice if posters from both ends of the spectrum realized that misuse of words, poor grammar, and poor spelling detracts from the message they are trying to communicate. Jumping all over someone for such misuse also detracts from your message.

  • ledzepp8

    God these people are morons.

“steyn conflates disagreement with censorship. You’re better than that.”

Nowhere did Steyn do that. Disagreeing with someone is when you listen to what they say and then offer your opinion on the subject at hand with evidence. Shouting someone down, cursing them, and telling them to shut up is exactly what censorship is.

“free speech” to people like steyn seems to be “I can make shit up & just say it”

For the sake of argument, let’s say Mark Steyn makes things up. Who the hell cares? Him being able to say it is the damn definition of free speech.

“really, @pattonoswalt? His use of the phrase “pre-revisionist definition of marriage” didn’t strike you as, uh, fucking shitty?”

Seriously is this person really struggling with this? We have a faction of the population that is arguing for gays to be able to marry and therefore change the definition of marriage. ‘Pre-revisionist definition of marriage’ would seem to be a correct way of putting it. This dude is an idiot but at least it’s apparent he actually read the essay…unlike the other tweeters.

Occasionally happens on Twitchy when the page loads incorrectly . I use Safari and if I have problems, usually reloading the page does the trick.

      • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

I have tried both my standard browsers Firefox and Palemoon, Geez, I suppose I can load another browser because I cannot get either one to load the tweets. Thanks for the response. Might be a glitch in both browsers. Will try another one.

        • Ms. Abigail van Beagle

Recently switched to Comodo, and pictures on Twitchy Twitter feeds don’t show up. So, if I want to see the pix, I have to go over to IE or Firefox. I’d really like to stick to one browser, but they each seem to have a flaw that the other ones compensate for.
Otherwise thrilled with Comodo. :Much less cluttered than IE and supposed to be more secure.

          • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

Might have to try a couple of others. I have about a 1000 bookmarks and probably 50 passwords stored so I would like a browser that I can migrate those over. I will try a few more tomorrow.

      • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

4th browser is the charm! Tried Safari, it was taking 1-2 minutes to load pages….then loaded Opera. Boom, fastest browser I have tried. Of course, with it, you cannot migrate any bookmarks or passwords.

I will be flashing my computer tomorrow to an earlier image, to fix whatever it was I did to screw it up. Later.
