Bam!

Wise decision, A&E. In the future, try not to bite the hand that feeds you.

Update:

From A&E’s official statement:

But Duck Dynasty is not a show about one man’s views. It resonates with a large audience because it is a show about family… a family that America has come to love. As you might have seen in many episodes, they come together to reflect and pray for unity, tolerance and forgiveness. These are three values that we at A+E Networks also feel strongly about.

So after discussions with the Robertson family, as well as consulting with numerous advocacy groups, A&E has decided to resume filming Duck Dynasty later this spring with the entire Robertson family.

We will also use this moment to launch a national public service campaign (PSA) promoting unity, tolerance and acceptance among all people, a message that supports our core values as a company, and the values found in Duck Dynasty. These PSAs will air across our entire portfolio.

“Tolerance”? Uh-oh …

Update:

Sweet schadenfreude! With Phil back on ‘Duck Dynasty,’ is GLAAD meltdown imminent?

Twitchy coverage of “Duck Dynasty”

  • Juan Pablo

They are so stupid! All they’ve done is piss both sides off! Should have kept their mouths shut to begin with and not tried to set them up to get cause to terminate the show

    • Jefferson Tea Party

This!! Now I have to boycott them for being spineless weasels.

      • Steven S Mellnick

When an organization capitulates, they need to be rewarded w/ returns. Otherwise, what exactly is the point of protest if you don’t reward the result once gained? (If you’re being sarcastic, Good Show. LOL)

        • Juan Pablo

You’re absolutely right. I’m part kidding. If I were the family I take the money and run. Once your employer shows to be such spineless wimps, it will happen again. The money is tainted. I never even saw the show, so I won’t be a return customer.

But I did buy a duck dynasty marshmallow gun for Christmas!

        • Andy Z

They capitulated but I see no remorse in the statment

          • Steven S Mellnick

The capitulation is enough, imo. I need not groveling from a defeated organization. I will take my wins where I can get them, this included. (I still won’t watch the other crappy shows on A&E, but DD, is again welcome.)

          • Jefferson Tea Party

They’re apologizing for the Christian-ess of the show. Ignore that part and enjoy the antics, despite Phil’s arcane beliefs. Screw that.

          • Don Goodwin

Its hard to deal with the real values in America …huh?

          • Jefferson Tea Party

Apparently! A&E’s apology should’ve been to the Christians in this nation AND to Phil Robertson for actually daring to voice their beliefs.

          • Andy Z

But in my opinion the left always demands a show of remorse from those that they are oppressing Look at Paula Dean she capitulated and showed remorse and is still being punished by the left. Lets show them how their own tactics work on them

      • DaveSmith

Matthew 6:14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. “

        • Jefferson Tea Party

forgiveness does not = support. They’re not apologizing to the Christians they’ve pissed off. Quite the opposite.

        • Robert Hutson

          Matthew 18: 15-17

15″If your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. 16But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ 17If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.

          • Michael Rice

People always seem to forget that part.

          • Robert Hutson

Yes, I agree!! If you are going to quote scripture then please place the scripture in the context in which it was used. Kind of like quoting Matthew (Who coincidentally was a tax collector before following Jesus) 7:1-5 and not quoting the entire chapter to give the context that the verse by itself does not give.

          • http://aconservativeteacher.blogspot.com aconservativeteacher

Are you serious? You can’t just cherry-pick the parts of the Bible that you like and quote them back to make your point? I thought Christianity was a choose-your-own-rules religion- you know, like, “I’m a Christian and yet I’m pro-choice and pro-gay-marriage and have no problem with lying”.

          • Robert Hutson

As far as I can tell if this is how you believe then you have a warped sense of Christianity. You really need to read the Bible in the entirety. You will find that those who do what you are suggesting are not truly Christians. When taken as a whole the Bible is one of the most cohesive pieces of literature ever written, even though it was written over hundreds, even thousands of years. It is still as relevant today as it was when it was originally written and translated!!!

          • DaveSmith

“First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win.” ― Mahatma Gandhi

          • L M

The brothers in these verses are fellow Christians, not the pagans at A&E.

          • Robert Hutson

Nice try, but I would have to ask then the age old question “Who is my brother??” You can’t have it both ways.

          • L M

Robert, Jesus answered that age old question in Mark 3:35 – For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.

      • Glorious_Cause

“We will also use this moment to launch a national public service
campaign (PSA) promoting unity, tolerance and acceptance among all
        people”

        Does that include Christians?

        • H50 ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

They should start with the lessons that they learned first hand by being intolerant themselves.

          • floridavet

In other words, they should read their own memo. Right on.

        • Jefferson Tea Party

NO. the memo should’ve said “We apologize for Phil’s Biblical beliefs, we’re working on making him more tolerant”.

          • Zaklog the Great (Shawn Smith)

No. The fact is A&E is half-heartedly learning a lesson in tolerance themselves. If tolerance means offering grace towards people you disagree with, then A&E is obviously the party that needed that lesson here, and they got it.

Now if “tolerance” means, “you will approve of the homosexual lifestyle or we will destroy you with any means at our disposal,” then yes, Phil Robertson needs a lesson in “tolerance”. After all, by agreeing with the Bible (as well as every other major religion up until the late 20th century), he committed a terrible thoughtcrime. Oh, and 2+2=5.

          • Jefferson Tea Party

A&E learned that by insulting their BASE they’ve lost money. That’s what they’ve learned. The need to apologize TO their base, not FOR their base. Now they’re going to subject DD viewers with PSAs for “acceptance” to try and teach us backwoods, Bible clingers some “tolerance”. You missed my point entirely.

        • floridavet

“…promoting unity, tolerance, and acceptance..” — which is simply another way of saying “we will force you to think like us, whether you like it or not.” A&E isn’t fooling anyone. They reinstated Phil Robertson because it was going to cost them huge bucks if they didn’t – now they’re trying to appease the GLAADers and LGBTers by producing some phony hollow PSA’s. Want to take a wild guess that they will simply be advertisements promoting the homosexual lifestyle?

          • KornKing

Isn’t it sad that this group of people have their entire identities wrapped up in how they get their willies.

          • Jefferson Tea Party

            ^Exactly.

Whats funny, is the tried and true methods of extortion failed. They pulled out all the stops (racism, fakers) and it still failed miserably.
Bet they will be scratching their butts for a while trying to figure this one out.

Amen! Its well past time for that revolution!

    • TexasGirl

Exactly. All they had to say was “this man’s views are not shared by A&E, blah de blah”, the usual language you get when someone airs their opinion in public. They made themselves look very foolish … and greedy.

      • trixiewoobeans

That would be because they ARE very foolish, and greedy.

    • MitchellSandlin

Robertsons need to quit A&E and go where they are appreciated. A&E Sucks.

      • Mark81150 Never/Trump/Hillary

I’d be surprised come contract time, if A$E doesn’t end up with some serious competition from other networks.. The Robertson’s would be vastly better off, as would we, if they told A$E that betrayal has a price..

I really don’t care if the family ends up moving, as long as their audience moves with them.. a given, since the only people here with clean hands are Phil and his family.

A$E can try sucking up to Gladd,… but no show based on Gladd’s values of bullying and extortion would survive long.. People are sick of having a miniscule minority’s view point rubbed in their faces non stop… of having perfectly normal mainstream values ridiculed,…. because the new best thing to the PC thugs will never replace a 2,000 year old truth,… no matter how much they try.

All they proved, was just how really weak they are, when people of good will say no to them.

    • trixiewoobeans

The “backfire” heard round the world! Lol!

      • Mark81150 Never/Trump/Hillary

The mental image of a Looney Tunes character with explosive black residue on their face comes to mind..

Gladd=Bruno De Magnificant… who will jump 500 hundred feet… into a block of cement… on his head yet.

with a continous loop of epic face plants to follow..

        • trixiewoobeans

HaHa! Wile. E. Coyote comes to mind!

    • tjp77

Yep. A&E came off as idiots here. If they’d have just played down the interview remarks from the beginning, this issue would have vanished faster than it appeared. But suspending Phil added fuel to the fire, and created something bigger than they ever expected.

And Phil has done us all a great service by proving that you don’t need to do the usual Hollywood apology song-and-dance. He stuck to his beliefs, refused to compromise, and came out on top. Good for him.

Fact is that the people who were ‘outraged’ over his statements weren’t the ones who watch the show anyway, so none of their threats would have had any effect on the ratings or sponsorship.

      • Mark81150 Never/Trump/Hillary

There wasn’t even any new outrage.. the people who claimed to clutch their pearls over this.. frankly have ALWAYS hated anyone who didn’t dress, talk, walk, live like the urban progressive elite.. and always will Their “outrage” is that normal values people even exist.

That Phil fitted their blind stereotype by being the bearded country guy, just made them hate him even more, even if he’d said nothing.. elitist snobs, arrogant clowns so sure they are superior to the “common” folk..

There is a mouth breathing set of bigots here,… all wearing Gladd T-shirts.

    • Jason Hokom

this is a well planned publicity stunt, and all that have fallen for it are the suckers. A&E knew exactly what they were doing from the beginning, There was an A&E rep at the interview who could have very easily edited or stopped Phil from making these “statements”, not to mention the time A&E had from actual interview to publish date, if they really wanted to curb this, they had every opportunity. A&E made a killing on the duck dynasty swag that all the ignorant people ran out and bought thinking they were supporting Phil, not to mention the huge bump in recognition. How many people knew nothing of DD before this?

      • gessiewtf

Actually people bought from Duck Commander the Robertson’s company.

        • gessiewtf

Please tell me they were smart enough not to buy A&E’s crap.

      • Mark81150 Never/Trump/Hillary

A true cynic always see’s conspiracies where they don’t exist,… congratulations.. The easy answer is the most likely true one.. A$E was arrogant, acted stupidly, something professional level progressives are fairly expert at….

and I’m sure Phil willingly subjected his family to the outrage of the idiot left, the death threats,.. all for even more money that they didn’t need../sarc..

Oh come on… when was the last time any Hollywood corporation deliberately sought out the open hatred of the gay lobby and left?
        _
You find one, it’ll be a first..

You can blame A&E for being arrogant and dim,.. and greedy, but diabolical geniuses?… and the Robertson’s?.. you think they WANTED this?

        uh huh…

I haven’t watched TV in years other than the news, and I knew who they were.. Their merchandise is everywhere. They didn’t lack for exposure, far from it.

    • DixieAngel_76

I agree. The wise thing would’ve been to simply say that ‘the opinions expressed by anyone on any show on our network do not necessarily represent the opinions of the station owners, and oh, by the way, we respect the right of freedom of speech for EVERYONE, not just the politically favored’.

  • RUTH

Will you check out Chelsea Handler face book site it’s the one that say’s Chelsea Handler- and see the picture she used with 2 little boy’s calling them Gay’s – it just seem very wrong

They had no choice. The viewers are in charge of this weak kneed excuse of a network, and I think they won’t soon forget that.

Wonder what they’ve told Jesse J?

    • Jay Stevens

Well, considering A&E’s last two limp wristed responses (#1. caving into GLAAD pressure and #2. caving into viewer dollars pressure), I expect that they will cave into JJ Sr.’s pressure with enough money that both will be able to save face.

      • TexasGirl

LOL, the 72-hour “deadline” Jesse gave them has passed … I guess no one wanted to talk to him lol.

I sincerely hope when these contracts up…. DD does some soul searching…. Find a network where you will be at home….. A&E just sees the cash……

    • Andy Z

A&E didn’t have a leg to stand on read the interview on GQ website Jase said that when the contract negotiations were going on the only thing not negotiable were Religion ,Family and Duck season it’s in there read it.

    • gessiewtf

I believe that they will leave as soon as they are legally able to do so. Which may not be for some time. I am sure they detest A&E for dragging their name through the mid for no damn good reason. These people don’t even swear. And they have to deal with this shit from A&E. Who reads GQ anyway? Isn’t it a gay magazine? Sincere Question. So why are they interviewing Phil.

Yeh, money does cause A&E real confusion; they couldn’t find anything in the contract that would have kept Phil off the program moving forward (contracts do work both ways so to speak), and The DDynasy is the Family…Cause, they know full well, that Phil handed them the ultimatum, and fools the Robertson’s are Not!

          • H50 ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

I would imagine they knew what was in their contract better than A&E did. They already challenged A&E once on the prayer thing and won.
Like I said before, I think A&E just assumed that the DD family was the ignorant rednecks that they wanted them to be and refused to see them for who they actually are.

I still think the whole suspension was just to make GLAAD go away. A&E was never going to stop filming. Now so much “hatred” to GLAAD has manifested they can not go after the sponsors like they normally do to boycott a show and get it removed. The marathon rating sucked so bad they had to put things right.

    • whateverdear

Such a cynic! They stood firm for nine whole days on putting Phil on ‘haitus’ (even though they weren’t actually filming anything) and they felt really awkward about those two 8 hour DD marathons they put on over the holiday. And the obvious truth is – A&E needs the Robertson family sooooo much more than the Robertson family needs A&E. The Robertson are without doubt wearing the pants in that relationship.

  • AmericanMom

This doesn’t change what A&E did to Phil and how they put GLAAD on a pedastal as opposed to honoring Christian beliefs. Money is their god and doing the right thing was only because they risked losing the money – period.

  • salina61

money talks, the thought of losing viewers or a $400 million dollar cash cow made them “see the light”!

          • H50 ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Well good for you for reporting her.
Skanks can rarely see the error of their own ways, the “comedian” genera has sunk to such disgusting depths for so long that it has become almost acceptable.
Having said that, it will never be acceptable to good folks, thus the amount of has-been comedians.
I wish you much luck and success with slaying this particular dragon.

Unspoken, but you know what’s coming is that A&E will take a much more “active” role in the content of DD. Meaning censorship. Or so I predict.

    • bidentime

I bet even the executives at A&E have learned they can’t censor the Robertson family. However you could be right, they may try.

i still think the duck guys should look for another network. their views are going to rear their heads again….they gonna suspend a member of the family every time someone asks for their opinion and they have the audacity to voice it?

  • Marvin Nelson

I would still love to see DD leave A & E for a network that really appreciates them. A & E only cares about money.

  • AG

To the Robertson Clan, hit them where it hurts, move to another network. In their decision they clearly show their hypocrisy in preaching tolerance yet all the while using their preconceived power to force their will upon you. Their tolerance is based upon “Greed” on of the seven deadly sins, something you don’t stand for.

    • Disqus42

I would so love the Robertsons to move to another network. However, someone else pointed out that their contract may require them to stay off any other network but A&E for the next five years. I would still buy A&E out, though, and MOVE.

      • AG

It would almost be well worth it.

I really hope the Robertson family tells them: “No Thanks”

  • catholic_citizen

A&E viewers DO need lessons in tolerance. Mr. Robertson’s comments may not have been welcome, but they were certainly valid expressions that did not attack any specific person.

Of course, the network is doing this only because their desire to balance their books is rivaled by their need to assuage the squawking cries of hipsters, metrosexuals, and the gay lobby that make up the majority of their programming viewers.

I was actually looking forward to that showdown. We all know Jesse slapped down the race card because of Phil’s comments about life with black people in Louisiana, and good ole Jesse was most likely totally unaware that Phil has a black grandson – an adopted grandson, which means that family lovingly took in and gave a family to a black child.

          • H50 ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

JJ never knows what hes talking about, so the fact that he slapped down the race card with out reading the article or knowing anything about the family that hes demonizing is no shocker.

As for that showdown, while it would be fun to watch in theory, there are two essential personality traits that JJ lacks to make the showdown worthwhile, the courage of his convictions and balls.

I think hes noticing his career dissipation light has gone into overdrive.

As the recent Duck Dynasty story demonstrates, the LGBT people are actually quite capable of spreading hate and intolerance. “You said something I disagree with, so you should be fired!” Yeah, funny how free speech gets tossed out the window the second a thin-skinned liberal enters the picture.

Oh, but I forgot, the LGBT crowd was largely willing to give Alec Baldwin a pass for angrily hurling gay slurs because… because… well, they never really did explain why ranting like a maniac is better than calmly expressing a personal opinion.

“Blah blah blah!” (Hey look, I actually summarized every Leroy post ever.)

And in the process, you ended up sounding more intelligent and coherent than little leroy ever did.

    • Michelle ✓classified

Hi leroy – I’m neither a Christian nor a gay person, so my view is completely from standing on middle ground – you betcha Christians in this day and age receive more hate and intolerance than gay people. And not only that, the hate and intolerance toward Christians is increasingly being accepted as acceptable, while if just one person says one cross thing about gay folks in public – outragefest to the extreme goes down. Nice try.

      • SpiffyMclure

“you betcha Christians in this day and age receive more hate and intolerance than gay people”

Said without an ounce of irony.

        • NRPax

Last time I checked, gays have more rights and freedoms in a predominantly Christian country like the US than they do in predominantly Muslim one. Don’t see the irony in that statement at all.

          • SpiffyMclure

So you’re trying to connect gays getting persecuted & even executed in Muslim countries to Christians supposedly “receive(ing) more hate and intolerance than gay people?”

There’s no irony in that statement. Doesn’t make a lick of sense either.

        • Michelle ✓classified

Ironic in what way? Please explain.

          • SpiffyMclure

If you made the statement as ironic, it would make sense. I don’t think you did, which would mean you’re wrong. FBI statistics for 2011 (the most current year available) shows that for the *first* time since stats started being compiled in 1995, hate crimes against gays have surpassed hate crimes against *all* religions combined. Here’s a nice Christian website with an article entitled:

For the First Time, Hate Crimes Against Gays Outnumber Those Against Religion

            http://www.christianitytoday.com/gleanings/2012/december/for-first-time-hate-crimes-against-gays-outnumber-those.html

Hate crimes against gays are on the way up, not down.

          • NRPax

Out of curiosity, I wonder how many of those “hate crimes” turn out to be fake because the victim wanted attention? That’s been happening in the gay community as well.

          • SpiffyMclure

And if I wanted to downplay religious prejudice, I’d question the religious statistics and wonder how many of them might be fake too. Of course, I have no evidence that any are, so I’d be talking out of my ass.

          • NRPax

I’ve seen more evidence of fake “hate crimes” against minorities and gays than I have against Christians. Then again, “Hate Crimes” are never used when the person being attacked is straight, white and male.

Double standards are twice as good.

          • SpiffyMclure

Double standards? Sorry – if you check the statistics here

            http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/hate-crime/2011/narratives/victims

You’ll see that anti-white hate crimes are listed too.

          • NRPax

Mind you, “Hate Crime” is a silly distinction without any merit.

          • SpiffyMclure

Took you long enough to get to that. Law enforcement officials, human rights and religious groups disagree with you. Besides, you can’t cry persecution if you don’t acknowledge that it happens to others.

Quid pro quo and all that.

          • NRPax

I’ve been saying that “hate crimes” were a bogus idea since the day they first came out and any time I get into a discussion about them, I break that out.

Is a murder victim more dead just because someone hates another person? Is an assault suddenly more brutal on account of personal dislikes? What criteria do you use to determine it was hate in the first place? Especially since I have yet to see a news report on a trial where the one accused of a “hate crime” was anything other than straight, white and male. If you know of an exception to that, I’m interested.

A lot of groups may disagree with me and I’m sure that there are a lot of people that agree with me. Doesn’t bother me one way or the other.

And I never “cried persecution” in the first place. Just pointed out that gays have a lot more rights and protections in this country than they do in others.

          • Michelle ✓classified

Oh, you make me giggle. Are you under the impression that “hate and intolerance” means and only means crimes committed? Really? Are you also under the impression that a “crime” against one group of folks is always and consistently categorized the same as when same crime is committed against a protected group? Can you please give me five examples of a black person being charged on a Federal level for a “hate crime” for the violence they used against a white person?

          • SpiffyMclure

Uh-uh. You made a statement w/o evidence. I supplied evidence that proved you wrong. Now you want me to supply *more* examples – this time about black people committing crime? That’s completely off-topic and irrelevant.

How about this instead – you cough up some empirical evidence of your claim that “Christians in this day and age receive more hate and intolerance than gay people.”

          • Michelle ✓classified

So fcking dense. Let me repeat this and try reading it slowly this time: Are you under the impression that “hate and intolerance” means and only means crimes committed?

You are just too stupid for words. Want an example of hate and intolerance against a Christian? HELLO? Ever hear of Phil Robertson?

Please tell me you’re not gay, please tell me you’re not gay. Because if you are, between you and Joe…I’m becoming seriously hesitant to continue standing up for gay rights. I’ve fcking had it with the ignorance.

          • SpiffyMclure

Dense? You make stupid, outlandish, sweeping claims that you can’t back up with anything. When pressed for any evidence whatsoever, you use Phil Robertson as an example of “hate and intolerance” towards Christians? He’s an effin’ millionaire with a TV show, millions in licensing royalties from books, DVDs, and Chia Pets. And he wasn’t even kicked off his TV show for saying some pretty nasty things about gays. Compare that to gays getting their heads kicked in on a fairly regular basis as per the stats I gave you.

Though judging by your rambling and non-existent logic, I’m thinking you should be offended about what Duck Dynasty guy said about drunkards.

          • Michelle ✓classified

You’re boring Spiff. I didn’t even bother to read your last spew of garbage, just came back to say have fun playing your games with someone else. You are a complete waste of perfectly good screen space. Type away kiddo, you’re talking to yourself now.

          • SpiffyMclure

            Proved you wrong again, huh?

          • YouGoGirl

What nasty thing did Phil say ? I read the article ( did you ?) and he voiced his opinion that a vagina was more attractive than an anus, that people should listen to the bible and not sin (commit homosexual acts, fornication , adultery, you know the same ole stuff Christians are exhorted to not do for the last 2000 years and love God and their neighbor . Whoo, real nasty stuff. Are you a moron ? Also, I know gays beating each other in domestic disputes is way under reported and stuff like Matthew Shepard’s tragedy ( drugs not gay bashing) skew your stinking statistics, so your argument is probably invalid.

          • SpiffyMclure

Not my statistics wingnut. The FBI’s. Do keep up.

          • http://www.GONINERS.com/ Kristine ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

So, to you, having money means you can’t be a victim of hate or intolerance?

And that hate and intolerance only counts if there is violence involved?

Apparently you two are discussing different things. You are narrowly defining what “counts” and she is being more inclusive.

          • SpiffyMclure

“So, to you, having money means you can’t be a victim of hate or intolerance?”

Not sure where I made that claim.

“And that hate and intolerance only counts if there is violence involved?”

No. But crime stats are binary evidence that illustrate hate and intolerance. According to the same stats, the religious group most subject to hate crimes are Jews. Don’t think many people would parse those figures as they do the figures for gays.

“You are narrowly defining what “counts” and she is being more inclusive.”

Actually, no. She made a rather outlandish claim, that the crime stats seem to disprove, and then I asked her for evidence. None was forthcoming. I can make any outrageous claim I want, especially on the internet, but if asked, I better have some form of evidence or I’m just whistling Dixie.

          • http://www.GONINERS.com/ Kristine ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

I didn’t say you made that claim. I asked if that was your position. Based on your mini-rant about them having money & a TV show, etc. I asked because personally, I don’t see how finances or employment are relevant.

And technically, she didn’t make any claims regarding crimes so nothing was disproved regarding crimes.

          • SpiffyMclure

We’re wandering so let me tighten things up. This is the claim:

“Christians in this day and age receive more hate and intolerance than gay people.”

Evidence? Nada. Hate crime stats, one of the few ways we can empirically measure hate & intolerance, say otherwise. The link I supplied was from a Christian website that agrees with the general premise of a rise in hate towards gays vs. that of religious groups.

Anecdotal evidence says differently too, but we’d be trading news report links all night.

          • http://www.GONINERS.com/ Kristine ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

To be nitpicky, your “evidence” is limited to crime.

And the other poster is not wrong when she asserts that “hate crime” is defined quite differently from case to case.

          • http://www.GONINERS.com/ Kristine ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

            Huh.

So both participants devolve into namecalling and insults. Moron. Wingnut.

Does that approach ever NOT entrench someone in their own viewpoint and cause someone to completely dismiss anything that just might have influenced a change?

Ah well, thought it was an interesting conversation until that happened. That’s right, I just got a soapbox for Christmas. 😀

      • JBE

Tyranny of the majority. Christians will likely always be in the majority, and will always control the conversation.

The LGBT rights movement is a minority that will likely never succeed in accomplishing their goals.

        • NRPax

Then maybe the minority ought to be a bit more polite towards the majority and stop acting like thin skinned whiny children.

          Just a thought.

        • Michelle ✓classified

Tyranny of the majority? What did Phil Robertson say or do that suggested tyranny?

Also, if you fail to see how Christians are absolutely told to keep their beliefs in the closet, the very same way gays were told to keep their sexual reality for decades, then you are either astonishingly ignorant or choosing to keep your head up your (_)_).

        • Golovolomka

The gay rights movement (The “T” people should be discussed separately, as their issues are quite different) have achieved their goals. Not too long ago, they said, “All we want is to be left alone to live our own lives.” Well, that goal has been pretty much accomplished in every state of the union. They can live their lives as they see fit, they can form relationships whoever and however they want, they can form households together in any combination they want. There appears to be almost no discrimination in housing or employment. By any reasonable standards, the gay rights movement has been enormously successful.

However, once this goal has been achieved, they start to move the goalposts. It is not acceptable for a figure in a popular TV show to voice any contrary opinions and remain on the air. A baker of wedding cakes must supply his wares to celebrate a homosexual union, even if his conscience dictates otherwise.

          • NRPax

It evolved from “equal rights” to “special rights.”

        • http://www.GONINERS.com/ Kristine ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Yeah, it’s just sad how none of those gay marriage bills have passed any state. Or how the Supreme Court didn’t strike down DOMA in June and didn’t declare homosexuality a protected class under the 5th Amendment. And it’s not like Obama signed, in 2009, a new law making it possible for the federal Justice Dept to step in if they find states won’t prosecute what they deem “hate crimes” against homosexuals.

You are soooo right and accurate, Trolly McTrollerson! Keep up that self-righteous indignation! Kudos!

        • http://www.GONINERS.com/ Kristine ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Did you call it “tyranny of the majority” when the Democrats decided to do away with the filibuster rules and actually stated that if an opinion is held by the majority then it should be heard and given more weight? Hmm?

    • Julescat

shouldn’t you be jamming something into your sqeak hole by now?

      • JBE

        Nope.

    • http://www.GONINERS.com/ Kristine ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Just curious, but have you ever been motivated to research a subject before spouting off an ignorant opinion? You are not being effective by remaining uneducated. You’re just trolling. You are either choosing to be intentionally ignorant or you actually do know the facts but have decided they don’t fit with your agenda so you ignore those.

What’s the point of you here? Repeatedly you will be shown you are wrong, how you are wrong, and why you are wrong. So do everyone a favor and pick up a book once in a while so that if you ever do decide you want to participate in an adult, informed discourse, you won’t always be showing up completely unarmed.

The American people have won and leftist fascism as lost this battle, but make no mistake about it, this war is far from over. This is not the death of political correctness and repressive tolerance (AKA Cultural Marxism). We still have a long, hard fight ahead of us and the totalitarians will win if we foolishly declare victory. All we did here is win one battle in this ongoing war. Its a reason to celebrate, by all means feel good about it (they would), we took the fight to the fascists and we kicked their @sses, thats a good thing, but the totalitarians haven’t surrendered and this fight has only just begun. Our side, the enemies of PC and the thought police in the elite media and the halls of power, have only just begun to fight back.

Someone asked where homosexuality is even mentioned in the New testament… of course they already know Leviticus but instead say Jesus never said a word… What I find interesting is that the bible actually says much & all this outrage is quite interesting since all Robertson did was paraphrase the Bible… seems the real issue is in being forced to be “tolerant” when I would think the better position would be acceptance of others as children of God as it relates to an individual struggle with sin…

Romans 1:26-27 – “Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.”

But, as Robertson said when referring to being non-judgmental…Rather than trying to be God and pass judgment on those individuals, a better option may be to offer prayers to those struggling with their homosexuality or any other sin… just as the Bible says.

I see that our nation is populated by people who think those who follow Christianity are somehow mean, hate filled, racist, misogynist, homophobic, mean spirited, vile, intolerant bigots. They think that Christians are uneducated, or undereducated, anti-Science, irrational, stupid, hayseed hick idiots who don’t know their behind from a hole in the ground.

They demonize Christians as being the most violent, mean, vicious people who ever lived, and that they are rampant murders, child rapists, women hating, war mongering, Gomer Pyle, Elmer Gantry clones.

The Christians I’ve known and worked with have been the most compassionate, loving, tolerant, humble, caring, generous, self less, sweet, kind hearted, moral people I have ever known.

The fact that people can champion deviant, sexually disordered behavior as if it were wonderful and to be praised, champion the slaughter – butchering of innocent new human beings through the various, violent, cruel, sadistic methods of elective, induced abortion in baby butcheries, AKA abortuaries, applaud the forced confiscation of wealth by government and thuggish leftists-socialists, the humiliation of people by making them feel hopeless, helpless, and incapable of accomplishment, and so forth, but hate Christians and others who abhor, oppose, or live diametrically opposite those behaviors and actions, speaks volumes about the distinct differences in the two main behaviorisms, value systems.

I prefer the compassionate, kind, loving Christians to the Straw man, mischaracterization perpetrated by the hate filled, and I prefer the compassionate, kind, loving Christians to the folks who practice the opposite.

An A&E spokesman can say, we listened and what we heard was kaching! Kaching! Kaching! Money wins once again! Go capitalism!!! A lot of free press, some righteous indignation, a big donation to GLAAD so they will STFU, everyone is happy. Jesse can still meet with them and extort whatever he wants, rancorous topic to fill in slow news days. WinWin.

  • $3838536

Too bad, GLAAD. Go away mad.

I hope Jesse Jackson choked to death when he heard about this.

So what lesson have we learned here, libs?

So… was this a crudely planned publicity stunt on the part of A&E that didn’t quite work as planned?

    • Jerome Goolsby

I think it was more a case of someone at A&E figuring out that pissing away $500 million a year so as not to offend a bunch of reprobates that amount to two percent of the populace and don’t watch the show anyway as being [EXPLETIVE DELETED] stupid.

America wins, kooks lose. Remain vigilante my friends for liberalism will continue to rear its ugly head. The bible says what the bible says, believe it, don’t believe, I don’t really care. It’s your eternal peace at stake. But while we are on this earth living in a free society, quoting the good book never hurt anyone…

I think the whole thing was a setup to get people to watch the marathon. A&E execs probably wanted to see if there was still enough new viewers who may not have known when or where to find the show. Having this controversy brought awareness to the masses. The ratings came in from the marathon and blew them away.

  • GaryUSMCvet.

Guess what Charlie Sheen? Phil Robertson is a winner.
    GLAAD – 0
    Phil Robertson – 1

  • GaryUSMCvet.

And Jessie Jackson’s head just exploded.

    • http://www.GONINERS.com/ Kristine ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

      I can only hope.

      • GaryUSMCvet.

No you’re wrong–make that, we can only hope. :)

Did they apologize for how they (over) reacted in the first place to one man’s opinions?

Does A&E have a Spelunking reality show?

Because they’re gonna need one to keep track of ALL THE CAVES.

Next move for the not so Reverend Jackson ? – Looks like A & E have ignored him and his Rosa Park Bus Driver comments summit. Wonder what the not so reverend shakedown Jessie Jackson will do. A black boycott of Duck Dynasty ? LOL Blacks Boycott Cracker Barrel ? LOL. RJJs major shakedown weapon is a threat to out some one as racist with a boycott or else a sum of money to a ummmm numbered account of his choice (i mean black charity).

  • Obama my Nigga

Citing irreconcilable differences, the Robertson family needs to move to another network regardless. Why wait around for A&E to do it again? Several comments relate to forgiving of sin. Sin can be forgiven, but repentance must be real, and it doesn’t absolve A&E from the consequences of their trespass, which should be the permanent loss of their revenue.

  • Anthony White

Phil should demand a public apology and a hell of a raise.

  • Andy Trimble

Am I the only one who thinks this was ALL a publicity stunt to drive viewers to the marathon and merchandise sales for Christmas?

They reinstated him 2 days after Christmas…

    Prayer is most powerful
The deciding factor is; the millions who stood for a Family with moral values.
This situation is an example of Glory, Power, and Wisdom of God
You see; A & E is not the culprit here; A & E simply was the victim taking a hit from the evil one who hoped to crush a show, a family who Walks with Jesus
We can do the same service to this dying nation with the power of prayer
The evil one has lost another battle by the Power of God.
We can collectively chase the evil one out of this nation and those who support him through unwavering faith in JESUS and the POWER of PRAYER
    Amen
