Yesterday, Michael Ian Black reached back a century for proof that government regulations are good for jobs. We rightly busted his chops for it, which he didn’t seem to like:

Fortunately for Black, he didn’t have to fight this battle alone. Meggie Mac stuck up for her BFF by trying to make us look like snipey little busybodies:

Um, no. We just used Black’s own words to demonstrate that he’s a doofus. As is the case with Ms. McCain, the tweets speak for themselves.

Boohoo. Worth noting: “Fascist” didn’t appear anywhere in our post; a commenter used it.

We “are the people you in your place.” Sounds about right.

Readers, we’ll leave you with this:

Editor’s note: This post has been updated with additional tweets.

Twitchy coverage of Michael Ian Black

Twitchy coverage of Meghan McCain

  • E L Frederick

You’d think that someone who thinks as highly of herself as Meggie Mac would have better things to do with her life than read twitchy comments. But then it is Meggie Mac… and she has less of a life than me…

    • ObamaFail

That’s libs for you, nothing disgusts them more than people who don’t believe exactly the way they do.

      • Michael Black

I would hazard that there is more disgust being displayed here than in anything I said. But if you could provide specific examples of where I said something that offended you, please point them out and I will apologize.

        • ForTheRepublicOfDave

Perhaps you didn’t say anything particularly disgusting, but you must admit that people on your side of the aisle have a far worse time speaking with those that disagree with them than we do on the right. Meghan McCain is one of those people. You, however, seem to be at least halfway rational.

That being said, I cannot forgive you for allowing the removal of G4 from my channel list.

          • Michael Black

I think bias, like art, is in the eye of the beholder. Of course we take less offense when somebody we agree with says something than the other way around, so no I will not admit that one side has an advantage on diplomacy. Meghan is a Republican. A dyed-in-the-wool Republican. She may not be the kind of Republican you are, but she believes in the Republican party and is working to make it a better place, as she sees it. Obviously you disagree, that’s fine. As for G4 being removed from your channel list, I take full responsibility for that, and deeply apologize.

          • E L Frederick

Why Meggie Mac is so Republican that she always encourages them to be more like Democrats…

Well little Meggie Mac believes she’s a Republican, and people who lean liberal are usually willing to take her at her word, because she’s a useful idiot, just like her ol’ man.

However, the majority of us in Flyover Country; who she insults on a regular basis; could care less what she claims, or thinks. We know a soft-minded liberal plant when we see (or smell) one.

Her opinions are the worst populist tripe, and I would be amazed if she had ever had an original thought. The only thing Meggie knows is what she’s been told by her senile maverick-y “Republican-In-Name-Only” father and her liberal college professors.

Eventually she’ll give up the ruse of being a Republican and come out as a card carrying Dem. Personally, I can’t wait for the party to be rid of her.

          • TheOriginalDonald

            A wolf-in-sheeps-clothing Republican, you mean.

BTW Hal Sparks is WAY funnier than you in all those I Love The (FillINTheBlank)s VH1 likes to put out.

BEAUTY (not art) is in the eye of the beholder.

          • Michael Black

This is a tremendous and mortifying oversight. (Although I do think art is also in the eye of the beholder.) Please do not aphorism-shame me.

          • DianaFeb

            Ok, LOL :-)

        • notenoughtime

Michael – it is hard to take your opinion seriously when your claim to fame is making snaky comments on VH1s One Hit Wonders. Passing judgment on those who have to live in the real world as opposed to living in a make believe one is demeaning. Stick to the snarky comments to garner a paycheck and leave the heavy lifting to those who suffer the consequences of liberal agendas.

          • Michael Black

Why does one’s job dictate how seriously to take that person? Who are you to tell me that I don’t live “in the real world?” What do you know about my life?

My belief in this country, and one of the reasons I am proud to be American, is that each person is entitled to give their opinion regardless of their station in life. Each person is given the opportunity to educate themselves, to better themselves through study, through debate, through reason, to rise according to their inclinations and abilities.

Were I a long-haul truck driver or a lumberjack or an executive at a company, would that make you any more inclined to take me seriously? The great Republican icon, Ronald Reagan, was also an actor, who lived in a “make believe” world, far more often (because he was far more successful at it) than myself. His ideas were obviously taken seriously based on the strength of his arguments.

After reading your comments about Perez Hilton’s new show, “The Sound of Music,” and YMCA’s swimming pools, I am having a hard time finding the “heavy lifting” that you have done to further your cause, and although I will certainly not stop expressing my opinion, I am happy to entertain yours, even though I do not know what you do to garner a paycheck.

When he came here.. and then denied saying exactly what he did say… that pretty well ended any credibility he might.. might have had..

When busted for saying Government reg.s were good for jobs, and faced with real examples refuting that..

He retreated to, .. well I never said ALL of them were.. there oughta be a way to remove the bad ones…

Yes dude.. you did make a flat declaration, you can admit error on that, but you can’t say no no, I didn’t say it.

and removing moronic regs… Liberals defend every single one like it was their first born.. Reagan tried to cut back on them, as did HW Bush.. and ran into a firewall of left wing bureaucrats defending everything to the death.. even firing hold over Carter appointee’s didn’t rattle the liberal federal agencies… they continue to this day, to obstruct reforms in any way they can. The democrat party responds by telling America that the GOP wants dirty air and water..

So tell you what skippy, call off your dogs…. who smear reformers, and we’ll talk..

or is that too “ideologically driven” for you to process?

    and Megan.. sweetheart…

You do not speak for the “youth”.. my daughter is happily conservative.. as are most of her friends.. because youthful rebellion and all.. the left being da man these days..

guess who they’ll be rebelling against?

That’s right… power grabbing, nosy spying on private citizens, debt dumping on them liberals. They’ll be taxed to death before they even start.. and they’ll blame your MSNBC suck up to Obama friends. They blame you on the left..

They didn’t even need a nudge either..

    • Michael Black

      Hi Mark,

Please reread what I wrote, and show me where I said “all regulations are good for jobs,” per your assertion.

      This was the conversation:

@prupain wrote: “but regulations harm jobs.”

I responded: “ALL regulations harm jobs? Tell it to the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory workers who lacked them.”

This was the point Twitchy picked up on, that I reached back a hundred years to find an example of regulations benefitting workers. In responding to comments on the previous article, I wrote:

“When Prudence said regulations are bad for workers, I was just pointing out the history of this goes back a hundred years; the same politics led people to oppose those laws for the same reasons that they oppose new regulations. Of course some regulations are unnecessarily burdensome to businesses and should be repealed when found.”

Nowhere in any of the comments did anybody refute the other example I gave: that of a bus driver being limited to ten hours of driving with an eight hour turnaround, drug testing, commercial licensing, etc. was a bad regulation, except to say that the market would be better off regulating transportation companies. The wisdom of the regulations themselves were not called into question.

As for defending ALL regulations, I have already said I cannot, nor would I try. Although I am a noted expert, I am not a regulatory expert.

I would have hoped we could have continued this conversation where it started, but since you choose to do it over here, I am happy to do so.

      • Mister A

The man himself! Welcome to the REAL Twitchy!

        • Michael Black

          Hello. Great to be here.

          • Mister A

I appreciate your points of view and your presentation of them, even if I may disagree.

      • sentry_99

Wait, I’m trying to understand this.

Someone said “regulations harm jobs”. You change that to “ALL regulations harm jobs?” and argue against that strawman.

Now you are upset that Twitchy distorted that to mean you believe regulations help jobs.

So…you’re upset they did to you, what you did to another??

Also trying to understand how regulations to protect workers “helps jobs”. Safety measures do not promote job growth which appears to be the point of the original argument. Bringing up factory disasters or bus driver regs just distracts from that.

        • Michael Black

I will readily concede that I may have misunderstood her intention. I took “jobs” to mean the quality of jobs, since the original discussion was about the minimum wage. I certainly was not arguing that regulations help job growth, as I don’t know if one can draw a neat correlation between the two since “regulation” is a vague term. Obviously if a law were passed that regulated the workweek to one hour a day more jobs would be created since more bodies would be needed to fill the position. A ludicrous example, I know, but one that I hope makes my point that I don’t think it’s easy to draw a neat line between “regulations” and “job growth.”

When I said “ALL regulations harm jobs?” Prudence did not contradict my question. She just asked for examples. We went back and forth several. At no point, did she say, “I don’t think ALL regulations are harmful.”

And nowhere did I say, or even imply, that all regulations are good. On the contrary, I said many times over the course of these conversations, that I think the opposite is true. Prudence is a Libertarian, and without putting words in her mouth, I think it’s possible she DOES believe that all regulations “harm jobs.” Whether or not she means the quality of the job, as I interpreted, or job growth, I don’t know. That’s the problem with Twitter; sometimes you can get lost in semantic points due to the abbreviated nature of the conversations.

Hope this explanation clears up any misunderstanding.

          • sentry_99

It appears to me you may have been talking past each other. I think when most people talk about raising the minimum wage being a negative, it has to do with stifling job growth and increasing consumer cost. I highly doubt anyone would argue that getting paid more is detrimental to job quality.

          • Michael Black

I just made that same point.

          • sentry_99

I made it better and with less words.

          • Michael Black

          • sentry_99

Agreed? Your liberal mind tricks will not work on me. GOOD DAY SIR!

          • TheOriginalDonald

            I disagree!-Shawn Carter #RobinsonCanoIsVASTLYOverpaid!

          • Ken Alan Draper

raising the minimum wage raises the cost of living as grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations, etc. raise prices to adjust for the raised wages, this acts as a net loss of pay for everyone else who makes MORE the minimum wage as the costs to support their family increase, it also does the minimum wage earner harm as the cost increases coupled with the added taxes means most minimum wage earners will be harder pressed. minimum wage jobs were meant for people who are new to the job market AKA students. t was never meant as a career.
