Yesterday, satirical site The Daily Currant posted a story about Sarah Palin saying that Jesus had celebrated Easter. The story was complete B.S., of course, but just as has been the case with other Daily Currant articles, people totally fell for it:

https://twitter.com/Jo_Haseltine/status/393446543174275072

https://twitter.com/ThePeteBye/status/393395209888735234

Among those who were duped: None other than doofus Piers Morgan.

The Daily Caller’s “Jim Treacher” couldn’t pass up a golden opportunity to give Musket a verbal beatdown:

Piers returned fire with deflection:

And opened himself up to even more smacking:

Oh yeah. Piers totally knew it was fake the whole time!

But who cares? Because the story may as well have been true:

That Sarah Palin … such a rube! Right, Piers?

We saw much more beauty in watching Piers try — and fail — to play it cool:

Treacher wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of getting away with it:

A desperate Piers turned to condescension:

But he should’ve known better than to bring a butter knife to an intellectual gun fight:

Teehee!

That’s a burn, right there. But since Morgan’s a glutton for punishment, he kept going:

And got pwned some more:

Oh, Musket … when will you learn?

  • pairadimes

No one outside of his immediate family pays any attention to this man until he does something really stupid, which seems to be about once a week. Ironically, he appears to consider this attention as evidence of a superior intellect.

    • ICOYAR

      Once a week?

      Try once a day.

  • lesterwink23

Of course Piers doesn’t bring a gun to a gunfight…he thinks they’re yucky and scary, remember?

    • Andy from Beaverton

Piers just keeps digging a deeper and deeper hole. If he doesn’t shut up, he’ll end up in China.

      • Jeff Allen

there is actually no place in the US where you can dig to China which is all the more reason to send Piers away.

    • rssllue

Wet noodle is more his style don’t you think?

  • GrindingMills

The bigger problem is that people believe this garbage.

Props to the Daily Currant though. They’ve had a string of their fake stories picked up by mainstream news organizations.

    • conservativechick

Their hate always wins over logic and truth.

  • Lienathan

People like this are so desperate to ‘prove’ how dumb Sarah Palin is that they will latch on to the dumbest, most implausible fictions because it suits their ‘knowledge’ of who Sarah Palin is (which they only know because they’ve been told it’s so by the usual suspects.) They swallow these things hook line and sinker uncritically without even the slightest speck of thought or examination. For as much as I detest those of a certain political persuasion, if something comes up that is a little too ‘on the nose’ or too good to be true, I will make good and darn sure I check it before I go passing it around. Liberals will believe it even if it’s fake, and it will become part of their narrative regardless.

‘Fake but accurate’ could only be a concept developed by someone completely lacking the capacity for rational thought. To borrow an old saw, the problem is not that they don’t know anything, it’s that they ‘know’ so much that isn’t true.

    • therealguyfaux ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

“Fake but accurate” = Dan Rather, on those forged documents about Dubya’s military service.

“It’s what you know that ain’t so which gets you into trouble,” Mark Twain, with his take on Josh Billings’s “You’re better off not to know, than to know what ain’t so.” Adapted by Reagan as that it was “[N]ot ignorance [so much as] what they know that isn’t so” which is what troubled him about liberals.

  • littleones

    They are afraid of her.

    • walterc

And they don’t even know why. Only because they’ve been told to be afraid.

Pied Piper had nothing on these rubes.

  • fireandreamitchell

Piers Morgan is Britain’s revenge on us for kicking their asses in the 1700’s.

    • Orwellian_Dilemma

Seems more like an encore if you ask me.

    • Corey Dennison

Well, we’ve evened that score: they’re stuck with Madonna…

  • JoeMyGodNYC

Good grief. He was obviously joking. We all forward stories we think are funny.

    • Rosalie

He’s an obnoxious jerk who deserves what he gets from his critics.

    • mike_in_kosovo

Which, of course, is why he re-tweeted it saying “Check out this hilarious parody article” instead of “She’s back…”

      Oh, wait.

    • Markward

I don’t know what is funnier, that Piers fell for the story, or this tool is defending him in a pathetic manner?

      • Finrod Felagund

Leftist troll Joe doubles down on stupid, film at 11.

    • Jill

He first replied with “and she’s back”. How is that particularly humorous or indicative of him knowing the story was false?

      • Corey Dennison

Exactly! How is that “British sarcasm?” I know British sarcasm, and that wasn’t it.

    • tops116 ✓Quipper

Yeah, he was obviously joking. That’s why he needs people like you to defend him and say he was joking. Because it was so obvious.

Normally, when something is obvious, you don’t need to belabor the point. That’s the whole point of something being obvious. I would’ve thought it would’ve been obvious, but hey, it’s you. Good grief.

But you do have one point, Joey. We all forward stories we think are funny. I’m going to forward the story of Piers embarrassing himself and the pathetic attempts to defend, ’cause that really is funny.

    • Corey Dennison

I will say this about you: you are masterful at spinning away liberal stupidity.

Just admit that he fell for it because he wanted it to be true.

  • JoeMyGodNYC

Trying to remember, did Twitchy post two dozen bitchy tweets when Fox News last week reported *on the air* that President Obama was funding a Muslim museum out of his own pocket? A story THEY got from a satire site? No?

    • Rosalie

I, for one, would never believe that of O. He only uses taxpayers’ money.

    • Jill

Didn’t Anna Kooiman apologize and acknowledge that she was duped? Yet, you’re certain that Piers was simply joking, right?

      • JoeMyGodNYC

Fox did NOT retract the story on air to the millions of their viewers who doubtlessly still believe it. Their host Anna Kooiman merely tweeted her apology. And she has fewer Twitter followers than I do.

        • Markward

          Ahem, liar:

          http://www.newsday.com/entertainment/tv/fox-news-anchor-anna-kooiman-apologizes-for-false-statement-about-obama-1.6212493

“Fox will correct the mistake on the air this Saturday, a spokeswoman said. Fox’s policy is to correct mistakes on the same show where they are made.”

Again, you liberals don’t get to make up facts. Again, you are an intellectually bankrupt moron!

          • JoeMyGodNYC

So they said nothing on the air for a full week.

          • Jill

An apology on social media, the website, and on air is not enough?

          • Markward

            Move them goalposts, bitch!

        • Corey Dennison

Shut up, Joe. You’re embarrassing yourself.

          • Rosalie

I don’t think Joe should “shut up”. That’s what the left always tells us to do. At least he’s being reasonable.

        • Jill

Yes, they did. If you put as much effort into research as you do defense of all things liberal, you would know that.

        • Guest

Obviously, like Morgan, she was joking. Can’t your logic work for her as well?

    • tops116 ✓Quipper

So, to defend people (you agree with) mistaking one satire site’s story as real, you condemn people (you disagree with) for… mistaking one satire site’s story as real? Way to keep it logical, Joey.

      • JoeMyGodNYC

Why do you think Twitchy ignored the Fox News fail?

        • WilliamAmos

We wanted to give you something to whine about.

          • JoeMyGodNYC

Right. And not because you cover up for right wing media gaffes but do cartwheels over silly non-stories like this one.

          • Garym

Its okay Joey, you can always go to Media Matters for the TRUTH about reich wing media.

          • JoeMyGodNYC

            Oh I do. Every day.

          • Garym

That was sarcasm, by the way. You progressives are awfully dense sometimes. See: Piers Morgan.

          • Markward

What, you expected any original thought, or intelligent thought for the matter, from joe?

          • JoeMyGodNYC

            Her apology was tweeted.

          • Sojibby

            She apologized for being wrong.

Morgan vows he was joking, when we all know he was fooled. If he did know it was satire “she’s back…” would not be him trying to be funny, but him trying to manipulate his thousand of watchers because he thinks they are stupid. Really irresponsible – at best – for the lead anchor at CNN.

And you can’t tell the difference lol!

          • Jill

As opposed to Morgan’s non tweeted apology, of course…

          • Sojibby

            sorry, repeat post

          • VerminMcCann

Even though I should know better, I’m going to give you a little bit of credit and assume you can tell the difference between a apology for something that did not take place on Twitter that was tweeted to what you yourself said is an insignificant number of followers and a comment that was itself the subject of criticism that was tweeted to a large number of followers.

Also, how does this thread unfairly implicate Chicago Jesus?

And, why do you insist that the right has some duty of self-scrutiny that the left does not? Do you troll leftwing sites demanding that they address liberal gaffes every time they criticize a conservative? If not, why?

          • Corey Dennison

Thank you for your utter predictability.

You gonna work George W. Bush into a post now?

    • VerminMcCann

Hey Joe, how does this tread fallaciously implicate Chicago Jesus? And Fox knew that story was fake the whole time. You just don’t understand Republican sarcasm.

How about Operation Demetrius, 9-10 August 1971, or maybe that perfect example of British Sarcasm that was 30 January 1972.

Edited to clarify, my father was stationed in Derry from 67-72, he took the family with him, so we were there for the beginning of “The Troubles” through Bloody Sunday.

He is incredibly gullible. But most liberals are. Especially when they have a blind hatred for someone. Sarah Palin wins again.

    • Sojibby

If only. This is still not a win for Sarah Palin. The majority won’t ever learn that it was fake, or won’t care because they believe she’s stupid anyway. The sad thing is anyone who’s actually watched her give a speech or read some of her posts knows she is intelligent and logical, not – whatever it is the MSM tried and succeeded in making her out to be.

From an outside the US perspective, it’s frankly rather sad, as she was one of those extremely rare, work with both sides/ignore the bullshit/get the job done/case by case instead of left vs right people that come along once in a lifetime.. May have been the last hope for what we remember of the US of A. And instead, collectively, you believed and elected the exact opposite in Obama.
