Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler may not know what BuzzFeed is, but he’s evidently very familiar with buzzed teens. And now he’s finding himself in some hot water after footage surfaced of him at a summer party in Delaware, surrounded by underage drinkers:

From The Baltimore Sun:

Gansler, a Democrat who is running for governor, said this week that he stopped by the Delaware beach house to talk briefly with his teenage son and then left. He said he does not remember whether he saw anyone drinking. But even if he had, Gansler said, it was not his responsibility as a parent or a high-ranking law enforcement official to intervene.

“Assume for purposes of discussion that there was widespread drinking at this party,” Gansler said. “How is that relevant to me? … The question is, do I have any moral authority over other people’s children at beach week in another state? I say no.”

Here’s the thing, though: One of Gansler’s pet causes is discouraging underage drinking:

“Say no to alcohol”:

Needless to say, Gansler’s “not my kids” excuse doesn’t seem to be going over terribly well:

Also, can we just talk about the creep factor?

Ick. Maybe he’ll answer that at his presser this afternoon:

The Fix’s Aaron Blake has put together a list of quotes from Gansler’s presser:

  • Netmilsmom

He may be a creepy stalker but he looks photoshopped into the picture,

    • Jason Wade Prater

nope he openly admits that was him, he claims he was just there to talk to his son, this has proven to be a lie as he helped pay for the house they rented and also chaperoned the party some of the time. this of course was after he did PSAs speaking out against underage drinking

      • Stephen L. Hall #NonquamTrump

        That dramatically alters the situation.

      • Dutch

People who want to deny physical evidence right in front of their face always claim “photoshop”.

    • TugboatPhil ✓Mate

If it was a photoshop, Gansler would have been wise to deny having been there. I’m betting that’s him in the pic.

    • John Kerry’s Forehead

I can see why you think he is photo shopped…but in actuality he just looks out of place because he is the only creepy, old guy wearing a $150 blouse from Joseph A. Banks. It’s an optical illusion that makes him look photos shopped.

  • Milos Gamelin III™

I can’t find O’Malley in the photo. Could you please point him out?

    • Jason Wade Prater

hes the creepy old guy in the white shirt trying to get some child porn with his phone

    • Catherine Stone McNickle

      HAHAHAHA, laugh of the day.

    • Cliff Williams

He wasn’t in Delaware but up in New Jersey visiting Sade.

  • rumor_monger

Kinda of makes sense…if you want to pick up underage girls you got to go to underage drinking parties….straight out of the Weiner/Clinton handbook

    • David Johnson

Not sure he was looking for underage girls camera looks like its aimed at the boy!

    • rumor_monger

Maybe he was doing a selfie???

  • Randy W

Even more strange, the two in the upper right corner

  • Matt

Two people in the upper right and the guy behind him are creepier.

  • Garrett Gripling

    Get him some brosurance, stat!

    • schveiguy

This is 10x funnier with that avatar.

  • M F Scotto

    It does look photoshopped.

    • Patrick

I thought that, too – but he said it was him…

    • LisaG

Angles and colors are too closely matched to be PS. Where would someone get a photo of him when he looked that bad at that angle? A photographer would have to, say, stand on a bar to catch him from above. And if that is a photo of him “looking at a text,” someone more tech-savvy should teach him to hold the phone TOWARD his face.

      • M F Scotto

Valid points if they started with the party photo and had to find a pic to fit. I was thinking that somebody had a photo of him with the phone and looked for something in which it would work. If he has admitted it is he, I guess it’s moot. I’ve done a lot of ad work and his head and arm looked incongruous. Oh well.

  • John

    yeah…doesn’t look right

  • craigzimmerman12

As a law enforcement officer it is his duty to at the least report illegal activity. I think he just wanted to protect his little boy.

    • ManaMoffa

He paid to rent the house He bought the party favors.

He was one of the chaperones.

Protecting his highschool age boy never came into mind

  • therealguyfaux ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

See, Doug, by admitting you were there, you can’t SAY you were photoshopped, even IF the pic is, shall we say, a smidge suspicious. Once again, Joe Mantegna on why you sometimes ought not open your mouth:

“You see, in my trade, this is called – what you did – you cracked out of turn. Huh? You see? You crumbed the play.” (House Of Games, 1987 film)

  • Atticus Finch

Why are right wingers so adept at BEARING FALSE WITNESS? It is the republican’t religion.

    • Cliff Williams

Because we don’t watch enough MSNBC to learn how to do it correctly.

  • tjack

Is he snapping a photo of three kids soaking wet and dancing wildly on top of a glass cocktail table?

    • LisaG

Of course not. He’s looking at a text. He said so at his press conference. /sarc

  • Garrett Gripling

“Wanna get away?” -Southwest Airlines ad

  • junkbondtrader41

I do not generally defend Dems, but … come on!

Granted, I have no career in law or law enforcement, but I attend my fraternity’s annual alumni party which inevitably involve under-21 college kids doing what college kids do. Copiously. Never once occurred to me that I had a moral obligation to call the cops. Am I a “creepy douchebag?”

He’s a Democrat, there’s plenty of other grounds to attack this guy, by definition.

    • Stephen L. Hall #NonquamTrump

True enough, but I doubt that you are also your state’s attorney general, the chief law enforcement officer for your state. I don’t think it as creepy as it is unseemly, but then try explaining such antiquated words to the youngsters of this day and age.

      • junkbondtrader41

Two groups present at these things. The currently active, young brothers, and the alumni, a bunch of 30s, 40s, and 50s aged old farts sitting around imbibing, enjoying the feminine scenery and pining for lost youth, usually with wives and girlfriends present.

If that’s all it takes, I plead guilty to “unseemliness!” :)

    • Randy W

The most glaring aspect is the double standard. If this was Ted Cruz, it would might end his career, if not make him irrelevant.

      • Randy W

Double standard in the media and in liberal circles, I should say.

      • Patrick

That is the litmus test for right or wrong. What if it was Ted Cruz?

    • Patrick

The other students at the alumni party are your kids?.. see the difference? Also, like Stephen said, he is the Attorney General, and did an ad against under-aged drinking. At the very least he is a hypocrite.

    • Red Fred

Yes, you’re shirking responsibility, for whatever reason.

  • AMERICAN Kafir™✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈwhitey

Pfft…. he’s just showing how silly those voter ID laws really are… by flouting the underage drinking laws. “We don’t need no stinkin’ IDs!”

    • therealguyfaux ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Anyone remember the scene in American Graffiti where The Toad gets a man to buy him a bottle, except, the man also robs the store, then makes a run for it, but before he gets shot, he throws The Toad the bottle?

  • conservativemomma

I saw the Today show peeps talking about this and twisting themselves in knots trying to say it was a hard call. The only test of right or wrong for this sort of thing is imagine if it was a Republican and what and how the media would be reporting.

    • Heather_A

Give this lady a kewpie doll.

  • djm1992✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ¹⁰⁰﹪☭⁻ᴴ⁸ᴵᴺᴳ ♎︎

He was probably just there to make sure all the Bros had health insurance, or were at least aware that they could now get coverage on all those fancy new federal exchanges. Thanks Obamacare!

    His hair looks pretty wet

    • LisaG

Yep, and his sleeves are rolled up. Even if the temperature in the house is “very, very, very hot,” how long does it take before one turns into a hot mess?

  • MRSquared

I thought the general Dem message is, “All your kids are belong to us”? Not in this case, though?

  • David Johnson

Wonder what he was taking pictures of Young Girls or was it Boys! Hope he got some twitter addresses so they can share photo’s just like Carlos Danger!!

  • Cliff Williams

Gansler is a do-nothing, empty-shirt politician who is perfectly qualified to follow in the footsteps of Governor Martin O’Malley. His claim to fame is joining in a class action lawsuit over the Exxon Valdez . . . 19 years after the fact. Last week a report came out that Gansler liked to berate his state trooper protection into breaking the laws while driving him around. He ordered them to speed, blow stop lights, drive in emergency lanes and use the vehicle’s lights and sirens to do so. It is claimed that at times he ordered the trooper let him drive himself with lights and sirens.

  • fireandreamitchell

Maryland’s Bob Filner or BJ Clinton.

  • Trevor Franklin

I live in Maryland, and the really sad part in that the other candidates are even worse. No Republican has a chance in Maryland. The last two times a Republican won was under very unusual circumstances. Seven years ago the Democrats ran Kathleen KENNEDY Townsend, and people in the state had the sense to not elect her just because of her family name. The time before that was 1966, and the only reason Spiro Agnew (R) won was that the Democratic primary winner was a known racist. The current Lt Gov is probably going to win, and he is just a Martin O’Malley lap dog.

    • John Thomas “Jack” Ward III

      How about Roscoe Bartlett? since his Congressional district was Gerrymandered out from under him, and I’ve seen him in action on C-Span, being the Conservatives’ Conservative, despite where he’s from… Jawamax 8<{D}

  • DorothyGrissom

“It rubs the lotion on its skin.”

  • Cygnus

Maryland refugee here. I may not have agreed with all his stances, but longtime Maryland AG Joe Curran would never have done anything like that.

  • World B. Free

Looks like he was grabbing some video of the 2 shirtless guys and the girl in the foreground twerking. You know, for “later use.”

  • HanaFiveO

Douchebaggery aside (and there is plenty) how many laws were broken here?

  • Mark A. Griffin

There are two other adults in the right top of the picture. And we wonder why our country is in decline. Wake up Men of the U.S. time to be role models.

  • LeighLeigh

Glad someone singled him out in the photos above as I did not see him at first because I thought he was one of the other middle aged guys standing with their pot bellies in the upper right hand corner of the photo under the stairs…….so this was obviously an ADULT SPONSORED PARTY.

  • Cindy Munford

What was he taking a picture of?

  • d.

Looks like two other pervy guys in the corner, at least they hid their cameras better.

  • Guest

Rules do not apply to Progressive Socialists…
Obama and Holder have demonstrated THAT to the American people.

  • Jay Stevens

All it would take is someone having a serious vehicle accident on the way home later, or one of the girls being sexually assaulted.

  • John Thomas “Jack” Ward III

    That reminds me of my Big Brother’s 19th Birthday Party… He had a live band, “Jungle Juice” (Made from Sangria and several other types of Alcoholic liquors), and a visit from Cocoa Beach’s Finest, who broke it up early… Jawamax 8<{D}

  • LegalizeShemp

Why is he shooting video of a girl twerking with two guys? Oopsies !

    • Zimriel

He was wishing he was the girl

  • WhoFarted

He should have to register. For life. They make all the others do it.

  • Red Fred

If this goof is unwilling to intervene in the smallest of disconcerting situations, he clearly doesn’t need the responsibility of governing. Creep!

  • cmazzJK

Sadly he isn’t the only creepy old guy in the picture. Check out the top right corner.

  • excoe

He needs to change his campaign slogan to: “Gansler was a high school stud….and still is!”

  • Mom2Ian03

Gansler is horrible, as are most of the DEMs running for governor. Our current Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown is a piece of work, typical liberal a cheater, liar and all around jackass.

  • David S

I am so against him winning.. But having raised 3 kids myself.. If he would have just said those kids were going to go drink and party somewhere so he took the chance of finding them a safe place and stopped by to make sure nothing was out of hand. it would all be over now …. also if you zoom in it appears someone else has their hand on the phone
