The basketball legend sat down today with CNBC’s Maria Bartiromo, who asked him for his opinion on the Zimmerman trial verdict. Here’s what he had to say:

That’s probably not a popular opinion among most people. But just looking at the evidence, I agreed with the verdict. I just feel bad, because I don’t like when race gets out in the media because I don’t think the media has a pure heart, as I call it. There are very few people who have a pure heart when it comes to race. Racism is wrong in any shape, form — there are a lot of black people who are racist, too. I think sometimes when people talk about race, they act like only white people are racist. There are a lot of black people who are racist, and I don’t like when it gets out there in the media, because I don’t think the media has clean hands … And, like I said, I feel sorry that young kid got killed, but just judging by the evidence, I don’t think that guy should have [gone] to jail for the rest of his life. Because something happened bad that night, obviously. And I’ll tell you, Mr. Zimmerman was … racially profiling, but I think Trayvon Martin — God rest his soul — I think he did flip the switch and started beating the hell out of Mr. Zimmerman. But it was just a bad situation. Like I said, the main thing I feel bad for, it gives every white person and black person who’s racist a platform to vent their ignorance, you know. That’s the thing that bothers me the most. Because I watched the trial closely, and I watch all these people on television talking about it. A lot of these people have a hidden agenda, you know. They want to have their racist views, whether they’re white or black. The bias, it definitely comes out. It was a bad situation. We all lost, and I feel bad for his parents. You never want to see anybody lose their kid.

Barkley’s response did garner plenty of nastiness:

But many others appreciated Sir Charles’ carefully considered, sensible remarks and his refusal to play into the media’s race-baiting hands:

Hear, hear. The loudest race-obsessed political mouths would do well to take a lesson from him:

  • Steven A

Apparently if Charles Barkey had a son, he wouldn’t look like Trayvon.

    • TocksNedlog

I always wondered why Obama thought a son of his would look like a pot-smoking thug.

      Oh, wait . . .

    • chrisallenrich

      Great point Steven, love it!

    • Elaine

Let’s face it, the only GOOD blacks are the liberal ones. Disagree on anything progressives tell you to believe and you’re not one of THEM anymore. This is the only time color doesn’t matter to the left!

    • Elaine

Let’s face it, the only GOOD blacks are the liberal ones. Disagree on anything progressives tell you to believe and you’re not one of THEM anymore. This is the only time color doesn’t matter to the left!

    • GrindingMills

No. Barkley’s son would be a lot fatter.

  • M F Scotto

“It gave every white person and black person who’s racist a platform to vent their ignorance” -Charles Barkley

A black person who’s a racist? I’m pretty sure such a creature does not exist. And I know ’cause I’m well-informed. I watch MSNBC.

    • steve

Of course everyone skips over the part where he said Martin was racially profiled. No proof of that what so ever! Half truth is all you got from Charles..

      • mike_in_kosovo

You mean the racial motivation that an FBI investigation couldn’t find? *That* racial profiling, or some other type?

        • objectivefactsmatter

Some people just can’t imagine profiling that isn’t about race. Martin was profiled for his behavior.

        • steve

Yes if Holder thought Zimmerman had racially profiled Trayvon he would have already arrested him on a civil rights case.

          • mike_in_kosovo

They’re investigating that, now… gonna be a hard slog for them, given the FBI report.

        • Elaine

The progressive type that has to exist, because they say so.

    • Art Vandelay

I hope you’re being sarcastic. We know from the prosecution’s star witness that Trayvon Martin was a black racist. He called George Zimmerman a “creepy-ass cracker.” ( Or maybe he meant creepy ass-cracker?)

      • grais

So what? That just means ‘pervert’.
        Or ‘security guard’.
        Or something.
        (yes, I’m being sarcastic)

      • Slugglife

        Ass-cracker! hahaha. good one Art.

  • BoscoBolt

“That’s probably not a popular opinion among most people.”

Actually, it IS the POPULAR opinion …

‘Rasmussen: Near-majority agrees with Zimmerman verdict’

By a large margin, Americans agree with the Zimmerman verdict.

    • Damien Johnson

That’s a little surprising because I was under the impression the country was extremely divided and polarized over this, while people on the fence didn’t have anywhere to go but the fence.

    • Kate

Not surprised that the media isn’t covering that fact. After all, it’s the same media that would have you believe that the entire population of Texas “stands with Wendy.”

  • trixiewoobeans

Thanks for ballin’ up, Sir Charles, and not playing with the baiters.

  • OpenTheDoor

Damn Charles, they will be burning your Jersey along with the flag and an effigy of Prez Bush.
Stay safe, it seems to be open season on blacks with a brain.

  • Brad Donald

So many of them have clearly not read uncle tom. Just remember it was Black Liberation Acedemic types that decide that Uncle Tom was an insult in the 60s.

  • Nate Brown

It’s amazing how black people stick together through anything unless one of them agrees with the “white man.”

  • GreenEyedGal

These people are mental. The twit from the Larry Elder video and now this Reesee twit… when did we stop locking up the mentally defective?

    • John

The woman who went off on the Elder video is damaged goods.

  • Finrod Felagund

Hate tweets! Does Ellen Barkin know?

  • The Penguin

Hey! How dare you try to revoke our victim status!

  • Magnifico

He’s all over the board. Never know which side he’ll take.

    • mickeyco

Maybe he isn’t taking sides? Just expressing the opinions he’s reached on his own?

  • An American Veteran

“It gave every white person and black person who’s racist a platform to vent their ignorance”

Charles Barkley just describe those who tweeted the ignorance he is talking about

  • WarrenZ

Let see now if I got this right – Zimmerman follows Trayvon in a car – Zimmerman leaves his car to stalk Trayvon on foot (armed with a 9mm) – Trayvon freaks out and begins to run – Zimmerman chase Trayvon – Trayvon attempts to hide from Zimmerman – Zimmerman catches up to Trayvon – attempts to hold him for the Police – a fight breaks out – Zimmerman mis-calculates and is getting his ass whipped – the gun comes out – one shot to the chest. What am I missing? Had Zimmerman never inserted himself into the situation Trayvon would be alive today.

    • truckee22

If Martin hadnt attacked Zimmerman, he would be alive.

    • L R

I think some of your “facts” are either incorrect or speculation. you might want to review all the numerous vidoes of the trial for more accurate details.

      • mike_in_kosovo

Some? You’re incredibly generous, given that virtually *all* of them are either partly or completely false.

    • Armed4Peace

Forgot the 911 call… Oh, and the part where Thug attacked Zim & Zim defended himself. Had Thug not committed a crime & attacked Zim, he would still be alive.

    • William J. Miller

Could you please cite your sources for everything between “(armed with a 9mm)” and “the gun comes out”?

Why didn’t you go to the prosecutors with this information?

    • J. Cox

Wow…I do not think anyone could have told as many lies in 1 paragraph as you just did.Did you even bother watching ANY of the trial…or just listen to other ignorant people fill your vacuous head with more crap?

      • waterytart

He must’ve just received his new copy of “How to talk like Jug Ears for Dummies”, and he’s clearly done his homework assignments as well!

    • Jake Midkiff

      No…you don’t got that right..

    • Johnny Right

And now we know YOU didn’t watch the trial.

    • NRPax

Quick summary: Trayvon brought MMA to a gun fight. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

      • Rick Bowser

Win an extreme make-over from a mortician,… also a new Coffin and Burial plot.

        • Ogrrre

Which is better than he deserved.

    • grais

You missed the part where Trayvon made it all the way home and then doubled back to find and confront Zimmerman, which is the part that makes ALL the difference.

    • mike_in_kosovo

Let see now if I got this right

      You don’t.

      What am I missing?

*BESIDES* an accurate representation of the incident?

    • thebigguy128

In the words of honor student Rachael Jentelle (sp?):
      “That’s retarded sir.”

      • NRPax

I disagree. That paragraph was just plain “tarded” because it was too stupid to be retarded.

        • JamesMc

Think I’ve heard most of that “tarded” argument before, it took a retard to repeat it.

    • JamesMc

Martin ran before Zimmerman got out of his car.
Zimmerman followed (not chased) to where he’d lost sight of Martin.
Zimmerman apparently never regained sight of Martin until minutes after
hanging up with Non-Emergency Dispatch and seconds before Jeantel’s call was completed (not stalked).
Martin approached Zimmerman and spoke first (according to Zimmerman and Jeantel’s testimonies.)
Martin struck Zimmerman in the nose and escalated the encounter to violence. (there is Zero physical evidence that Zimmerman laid hands on Martin while plenty of evidence to Martin being the aggressor)
Zimmerman yelled the entire time for help. Martin continued the assault while mounting Zimmerman. (Mr. Good’s testimony)
Zimmerman shot Martin while being assaulted by Martin. (Forensic evidence)
If Martin hadn’t been an idiot teenager and assaulted a total stranger, he’d be alive today.

  • ceemack

I think that was more thoughtful than anything I’ve ever heard come out of Obama’s mouth.

Maybe Sir Charles should’ve been the first black President.

At least he could hit a few free throws…

    • JohnnyN2O

      Or throw a baseball

      • SkyePuppy

Or ride a bicycle in man jeans instead of mom jeans.

    • ElbethL

And he can say “War Eagle” correctly. 😛

  • Emily B

And all the people hate-tweeting him immediately prove that everything he said was exactly right.

  • OpedAnderson

    Wow…….. I love this guy!

  • Cesar BBiano

If no one should care what Charles Barkely thinks, why would anyone care what tweeting nobodies think? lol

  • jkpalmdale

What a concept he actually weighed the Evidence LOL I do not always agree with Charles but he is right on this issue

    • Spiny Norman

“Sir Charles” never hesitates to speak his mind, and if someone doesn’t like what he has to say, well, that’s their problem.

  • Jimmie

Didn’t Sir Charles once aspire to be the Republican Gov. of Alabama? I’ve seen Chuck in public before, he’s very outgoing and very pleasant to strangers. He was buying drinks for everybody when I saw him Dallas a few years ago. Didn’t have a entourage either.

    • Spiny Norman

Do you know who else is a really cool guy in public? Sinbad. I met him in San Diego in 1999 or so. He had no obnoxious entourage either, just a couple of buddies who were as laid back as he was.

  • Damien Johnson

The irony of wanting Justice for Trayvon because of racist motives that can’t be proved as it is… while showing outright racism to black people with a dissenting opinion.

    • Lolly

I don’t know how to make the upward arrows, but if I did, I’d put four or five of them at the beginning of my response and just say “This!!”

      • mike_in_kosovo

Hold shift key, press 6 on main keyboard.

        • Lolly

      • Lolly

^^^^^^^^^ That which Damien said! *thanks, Mike!*

  • Canadian in USA

Charles Barkley is no conservative by any stretch of the imagination; saying that, it’s really refreshing to hear him give a reasonable response based on him “[followed] the trial very closely” and based his opinion on the evidence. He’s one of the very few celebrities who actually has an informed opinion. Also glad to hear him call out black racism.

    • mike_in_kosovo

  • Brother bob

Lol .. Love it when liberals turn against their own when one strays off the plantation. No one does it better than liberals with their oh so much colorful words.

  • lesterwink23

Easily one of the most intelligent things Sir Charles has ever said. And can we agree that the term “Uncle Tom” has lost complete relevance thanks to the idiots who throw it around in situations like this?

    • grais

It hasn’t lost relevance for people who’ve read the book.
Only the hopelessly ignorant throw it around as a pejorative.

  • kateorjane

It’s really sad when the black community expects everyone to fall in line based on color and if they don’t they become toms/house slaves/whitey’s pet. etc. Time and time again it appears the too many in the black community don’t want to be treated equally rather they want special treatment. They rail about profiling but they expect accommodations based on their race. At some point the race card playing has to stop.

  • $38343398

I dunno. Barkley claimed that an NBA would never fly in Oklahoma because they hate black people here.

I think we’ll see him changing his “opinion” after a little call from Brother Man livin’ in the Big House.

  • Jake Midkiff

Odd stance on racism coming from a guy that once said he hated white people…

  • Ben Bollman

I agree with most of what he says except
that I don’t think Zimmerman was racially profiling. Everything though
he says about the media and bringing out the racism in both sides is
spot on. If it didn’t advance the ‘evil white man’ narrative we never
would have even heard of it.

  • BadGirloftheNorth

Don’t agree with the profiling comment, but in this case, I’ll even give him that; because the rest of it was pretty darn straight up.

  • keyboard jockey

Like Charles Barkley cares what a bunch of racist on twitter calls him. None of those people would say it to his face.

  • Jake Midkiff

Personally, I wouldn’t jump up and down about Barkley’s take….given his history.

  • LegalizeShemp

How quickly you forget, Barkley appeared on a TNT basketball show and flatly stated that “I don’t like white people.” Such a statement would get a white person fired in 10 seconds, but he’s still on the show.

    • Lolly

Isn’t he married to a white woman? Strange thing for him to say, in that case. ‘Course, I could be wrong about his wife.

  • Art Vandelay

Gotta love the “tolerant” leftists. They can’t believe a black man could look at the evidence and agree that the prosecution never proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt. So what do they do? They launch a seemingly unending string of vulgar, hateful ad hominem attacks on Charles Barkley. They don’t attack his opinion, mind you, they attack him.. personally. So much for tolerance. Leftists crack me up.

  • grais

I agree with every word he said except the racial profiling thing.
Zimmerman would have been suspicious of whomever the person was that he saw that night, regardless of color or anything else. If it’d been a white woman, he’d have been suspicious.

    • Karl Winrich

And why is there racial profiling in this country? The black population is approx 12% of the total US population and if one is to drop off the very young and the very old then your left with approx 8% of the total US population. Now consider that out of the total amount of crime here in the US that >70% of that is committed by blacks. So less than 8% of our population accounts for the vast majority of total criminal activity, it’s not hard to see why racial profiling does in fact happen.

      • grais

I didn’t say, nor do I believe that it doesn’t happen.

        • Karl Winrich

I may have said that poorly.

Other countries use racial profiling simply because it works. But here in America it’s a huge civil rights no-no even if the person being profiled actually is a felon.

The only time anybody ever hears about it is when it’s a black or Hispanic person who gets profiled, but never if it’s a white person. Funny that how the media just happens to conveniently ignore it when the rolls are reversed. So cases of profiling always get big attention by the media even if they were justified.

So a question that should to be addressed from the FL vs. Zimmerman case:
When Trayvon had a full 4 minutes in which he could have escaped to safety he didn’t; why did he turn back to confront a stranger with unknown intentions?
Kind of sounds like profiling might just have been proven correct again.

          • grais

The only thing I disagree with you about is, as I said, I don’t think Zimmerman WAS racially profiling Martin.
There’d beeen lots of crime in the neighborhood. Zimmerman was a bit overzealous about it. He’d have been suspicious and followed ANYONE he didn’t recognize as being a resident.

          • Spiny Norman

The fact that there had been a home invasion robbery in the complex, committed by a couple of young black men, cannot completely eliminate any racial component from Zimmerman’s suspicion of Trademark. That said, there is no doubt that the main reason Zimmerman was suspicious was Martin’s sketchy behavior.

  • Richard Jefferies

Excellent and well said, Mr. Barkley. That was probably the most measured statement of anyone with celebrity or media status on the issue of GZ. As for the ignorant dolts attacking him, it’s the same’ol vile rhetoric with anyone who doesn’t agree with them. Paid, Uncle Tom, House N****r. Broken records all of them.

  • bo1921

Fascinating – The little twitterer, jeff gauvin, says Barkley, “the modern day Uncle Tom made every virulent Klan and hate group cheer.” From his tweet he seems to harbor a lot of virulent hate, himself. I guess the irony is above his dough-head.

    • Lolly

Do you think he included The New Black Panthers on his list of cheering hate groups?

  • David R. Cheasman

The shrieking of the Left is sweet music to my ears.

    • Karl Winrich

Yep, can’t you just FEEL the love from the libtards :)

  • VL123

I was about to leave a comment…but just as I was the owner of the video disabled comments. Probably good since there will be lots of trolls. Good for Barkely for seeing objectively.

  • ObamaFail

Why is it when libs get upset, they forget how to spell?

    • mickeyco

And usually they can only remember 2 words: sh*t & f***.

  • JohnnyN2O

Too bad he didn’t name names.

  • mike_in_kosovo

The press should be not only a collective propagandist and a collective agitator, but also a collective organizer of the masses.
    – Vladimir Lenin

  • QueenB

And Twitteridiots prove his point. Good show!

  • Steve_J

I’d like to see those ripping on Barkley say those same things to his face

    • Doreen Beisel

The man is dangerous I saw what he did to “Barney” on SNL

  • Greg Hayes

if the race crap was left out of it, and these people actually went on the evidence put forward, they too would have come to the same conclusion. but judging by the grammar of these comments, they aren’t the brightest bulbs on the tree to begin with. Stop butchering the language, stay in school LOL

  • Dee

@Jeff Gauvin, you’ve proven that your family owned more slaves back in the day, than any other white family! I have never seen such a display of white guilt in quite some time.

  • CherDash

He is wrong, though. Zimmerman did NOT racially profile Martin.

  • Kristine

Holy crap. You should read this guy’s feed. My jaw dropped.

    He has some serious issues.

    • KhadijahMuhammad

Agreed. This is the kind of stuff you expect to read from somebody locked up or committed, not somebody out there walking around with normal people.

  • Victoria Richardson

I agree with Charles Barkley expect that George Zimmerman profiled Trayvon Martin. I also never thought I would agree with Jimmy Carter on anything but he said the same thing Charles Barkley did.

  • AZWarrior

Chuck is absolutely right. Reading the hate-grams shows us without a doubt that the Democrat party has developed a lot of warped blacks whose racism is starting to reach levels that will cause people to die. Look at their threats and tell me we should “invest” one more dollar in their support.

  • Anicra

People are being directed and used. Funny it took Charles Barkley to say something like

” A lot of these people have a hidden agenda, you know. They want to have
their racist views, whether they’re white or black. The bias, it
definitely comes out. It was a bad situation. We all lost…”

  • Caitlin

I’m laughing hysterically at that one idiot screaming “RT FOR FOLLOW”. Typical intelligence level of Martin apologists.

  • Rulz

“really sad when (no offense) Charles Barkley has more grounded opinion on current events than our own Atty General”

But understandable when that AG is Eric Holder.

If you know or follow Charles, he’s a pretty stand-up guy and thinks for himself even if he does go democrat.

  • K-Bob

Nothing makes the plantation dwellers less happy than a man who can think for himself.

  • AZGunslinger

I guess Sir Charles has sobered up and come to his senses.

  • neoface

Why is it whenever a black person has his own views that don’t agree with the general black population of liberals, he is right away labeled “uncle Tom”, These people are just ignorant to the gills. Oh, they call themselves “liberals” or just stupid.

  • Doreen Beisel

Notice that blacks who worked hard and stopped playing victim are in Zimmerman’s corner

  • teapartydoc

Love-hate relationship with Charles. Sometimes makes a lot of sense. Other times a worthless prick. I think he’s learning he made a mistake on Obama. Stocks may be up, but the common man hasn’t even hit bottom, yet.

  • Kevin Scott

I think I get it now. The Zimmerman trial is a sort of Rorschach test to see one’s true inner self. If you agree with the verdict, that all sides were able to present evidence and ensure a fair trial and the defendant was afforded proper representation, and the outcome was that Zimmerman was not guilty, you are a racist.

If you see the Zimmerman trial for what it REALLY was– a kangaroo court by the white man to start the legal killing of black men– then you are enlightened and deserve a position on an Ivy League school’s faculty.

Don’t pop the champaign corks for this guy. He’s also the one who said that if you didn’t vote for Obama, you were a racist. Just another race-baiter. IMHO
