Zimmerman’s lawyer is wrong. It is not the trial that is changing Zimmerman’s life. Zimmerman’s life changed the moment he set in motion the chain of events that resulted in Martin’s death.

I believe Zimmerman was protecting himself when he discharged his weapon but he was not selected at random by Martin for a beat-down. Martin confronted Zimmerman for the very same reason Zimmerman was following Martin…there was a suspicious character who looked like he was up to no good.

Zimmerman is neither a villian or a hero. I just don’t think the facts support such a neat conclusion either way. Zimmerman is a guy that walked around with a gun looking for trouble. And he found it. I believe he’s not guilty of murder. But that doesn’t make him innocent.

    • TocksNedlog

And now we have Captain Oblivious.

    • Billie Slash

Then its a good thing juries don’t decide on guilt or innocence based on speculation, as you are.

    • Jeff McCabe

so you know this despite the total lack of evidence presented? Turns out that walking in your neighborhood, carrying both a license to carry and a gun is perfectly legal. Sucker punching someone is not. Martin set in motion the events in question.

      • Hank Scorpio

You’re certainly welcome to believe that Martin was unreasonable to be suspicious of a “creepy cracker” following him. Just as I’m welcome to think it’s worth a good hard look when a kid dies in the process of walking away from the store. Even if that kid was not exactly the poster child for the innocence of youth.

        • AMERICAN Kafir™(KAdams)

He still had 4 minutes to make his way to his daddy’s fiancee’s house.

    • Jeff Coil

Zimmerman was not “looking for trouble”. He was doing his JOB as a neighborhood watch captain. And he had a license to carry a gun. Martin chased down Zimmerman after Zimmerman had given up and was heading back to his truck. Martin could have kept on walking and he would be alive today. But this teenage punk was so full of himself that he decided that he was going to teach this “creepy ass cracker” a lesson.

      • Hank Scorpio

His “job” as neighborhood watch captain is to look for trouble. He obviously did not have the proper training and skills to defuse a situation he created. And a kid ended up dead.

        • donfulano

His “job” as neighborhood watch captain was to deter criminals by his presence in the neighborhood. However, some criminals are just too stupid to be deterred. Smoking weed and generally acting out the “thug” life is not a formula for a positive future.

          • Hank Scorpio

Agreed about Martin. But Zimmerman is not doing his “job” very well if the streets are so dangerous a kid gets shot in the course of walking away from the store.

I guess I’m just more troubled than a lot of people seem to be by the appearance of vigilante justice here. I can’t look the other way at the fact that Martin did not select Zimmerman at random for a beat down. Basically, if Zimmerman walks, it sets the precedent that if you bait someone into a confrontation, it’s a license to kill. Zimmerman’s good intentions don’t erase the bungling execution of his “job”.

    • AMERICAN Kafir™(KAdams)

Not hardly. As the defense pointed out, if Tray-tray was really in fear for his life, as the prosecution and race baiters would have you believe, he had 4 minutes to make his way home. Why didn’t he? Why did he end up back at Zimmerman’s position near his vehicle? When Tray-tray started running, at which point Zimmerman lost sight of him, why didn’t he JUST RUN HOME?

      • Hank Scorpio

        I dunno.

I do know that if I was being followed by someone for doing nothing but walking in the rain, I would definitely consider it suspicious behavior that might be a threat to me. I can try to put myself in Martin’s shoes on that night but I lack the perspective to make an educated guess as to why he reacted like he did. I do think that is one of the key question at the heart of justice here.

Unfortunately, politics have overwhelmed the situation and justice is one of the last thing that is involved. The question has become: Did Martin get what was coming to him or is ZImmerman a racist killer? Neither of those choices is justice, in my opinion.

        • donfulano

Maybe the question has become that, as summarized by the Racial Grievance Industry; but I think we can safely say that Zimmerman is not a racist killer, given his history. And I haven’t heard any mainstream person express that Martin “got what was coming to him.”

I think justice was done in this case, but if you’re looking to blame someone, look to the people who promote a gansta lifestyle to impressionable adolescents.
