Great question.

Geraghty can’t help but notice the strikingly biased manner in which the Washington Post approaches various religions. What makes some, like Mormonism, such acceptable targets while Islam is seemingly beyond reproach?

And as this Twitterer also notes:

Yeah. Funny, that.

A. Men.

well, gee. could it be they’re afffrrrraaaaiiiidddd? they aren’t just hypocrites, they’re cowards. Mormon missionaries stand out front and pass out real Books of Mormon to those who are interested. we know what followers of that other religion would do . . . . .

    • rhetorical1

      islam is NOT A RELIGION.

      • ked5

there is a Saudi Christian convert in my homeschool group. her comment was it is a legal system. masquerading as a religion. but the progressives know all about that. much of their climate science is a religion. (and they ignore facts, and rewrite observations.)

      • liberalssuck

No but they sure do yell to their god all the time. Hard to tell it isn’t a religion!! Why we call them snackbars!! BTW mamhumond was a pedophile! We should feed them bacon! Spelling was on purpose for Mohammad!

  • NCRelite

Mormons are generally very polite and nice people, therefore they make easy targets for “brave” libs

    • Marcy Cook

      What you said.

    • americanlatina11

zaktly…demonrats hate people who give up a couple of years to go out (pay their own way) and teach their beliefs…they should be getting drunk and aborting babies when they are 18-22. It’s terrible that young men and women can behave so well–it makes the liberal college girl feel bad that she has no self-control.

      • Zathras11 @B5

I’ve been using DemocRATS, but I like your’s better. I’ll have that off you! And thank you.

        • Catchance

          I’m also partial to “Demwits”.

        • Catchance

          I’m also partial to “Demwits”.

    • ObamaFail

Liberals know that Mormons won’t try to kill them for speaking negatively about their religion, like muslims would.

    • ked5

these same ‘brave’ libs that throw paint on little old ladies wearing fur coats, but won’t go near bikers regaled in leather.

      • bluewaternavy

Some time back a PETArd tossed some paint on a older woman near Lincoln Center…right near a biker. Biker grabbed the little turd and asked “Wanna try with ME, now? PETArd face had to be dug from pavement. None of us that were questioned cops (who were laughing) recalled the biker-just the PETArd painting the lady.

        • Bathing Suit Area

Haha! Violence against people you disagree with is the best.

    • porgiefirefighter

Yea, an act terror for a Mormon is living in Utah and having a couple of wives.

  • John Thomas “Jack” Ward III

    According to that Abdullah Abu-What’s-his-name, It’s against the law to criticize Muslims (Or it should be)… Does this mean I can’t complain to the Islamic Center (down the street from me) about their people blocking traffic (Parking on the Street) or the Sidewalk (Also where they park), making it harder for me to walk the Dogs? And, especially when there’s PLENTY OF PARKING within walking distance? Just askin’… Jawamax 8<{D}

    • nickdqwk

Just feed the dogs bacon while your negotiating a path through the vehicles.

      • Finrod Felagund

        And carry a pigskin football.

  • James Hansen

    the wash post is islamophobic.

    • halflight

. . . in the true sense of the word. Interesting how “phobic” has come to mean “bigoted”.

      • Thale Taxurfeet

Just as interesting is how does not agree with has become bigoted and/or phobic…

  • lmfer

Free Agency, a basic tenet of faith of Mormon church, allows others to mock it without fear of reprisal from adherents. In addition, another tenet says: “We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.” Therefore the WaPo is unafraid of reveling in mockery of Mormons.

The WaPo doesn’t appear to feel free in the Land of the Free to do the same towards mockery of Mohammed or that faith.

The LDS faith has suffered massacres at the hands of citizens of USA (see exodus from northeast to Rocky Mountains in mid 1800’s) and has for the most part (see exception at Mountain Meadows) turned the cheek and got on with their business of assimilating. They don’t demand a second set of laws from states in the Land of the Free or in any other country they have adherents in.

That doesn’t seem to be the case with the religion that the WaPo seems to have a double standard with. How many times have state courts allowed Sharia Law to guide disputes here in the USA which for the most part seems like the real “War on Women”?

Oh well. WaPo gets a pass. Freedom to mock is ok here in USA. Some are brave enough to do it to all

    • Ronald Green

      ….But not the WaPo.

  • walterc

The difference is that to my knowledge, a Mormon has never cut off anyone’s head for insulting Joseph Smith. Ditto with Catholics and Pope insults. These people are cowards and have zero to contribute to a civilized society.

    • Cole Slagh

If you know Mormon history you would know that they butchered a lot of people on their trip out west. They are a polytheistic cult but we have freedom of religion. Of course, they change their rules when the govt comes after them ( Polygamy, No Black Priests ) their ‘profit ‘ just gets a revelation and poof their beliefs change. People attacked them because they used Jesus name on their cult teachings.

      • me

Bull crap. And yes. I am a student of history.

      • Deborah Hallsted

They did not butcher people on their way west, lol. They actually sent emissaries to the native americans, to negotiate their passage. Even so, 2/3 of them died on the way. So much for “butchering”! They are not a cult; and “by their fruits ye shall know them”-I think Jesus would be proud of them, they’ve donated millions of work hours and money to humanitarian aide. The Pennsylvania School of Social Policy said that LDS donate “significantly more time and money than the national average”. But on topic-this play does mock them, and they don’t even protest that. Glad Geraghty stood up for them.

  • rhetorical1

islam is NOT A RELIGION. When will you all learn that simple fact???

    • MarcusFenix

Not trying to be derogatory, but….what would you classify it as? A cult?

      Genuinely curious.

      • ked5

I am acquainted with a Saudi Christian convert. she labels it as a legal system. she also had enough of someone defending it and stated rather bluntly that her parents were disobeying that system by NOT ‘honor’ killing her for leaving it and becoming Christian.

      • Southern Gent

See Ked5’s reply to his own post above for clarification.

      • rhetorical1

Hi Marcus. I urge you to start receiviing information from You will learn more than you will ever need to know about these jihadists. Also get a Quran and read what is ‘taught’. Another site is Xlan where you can learn about this false ‘religion’. “Know thy enemies”. Something this administration does not want us to do. I refuse to be a sheep!

        • MarcusFenix

I have a copy of the Quron on my shelf, with the Arabic on the one half and english beside it. I am fully aware of the fact that there are such things as over 120 instances of calling for the death of infidels.

I’m also very aware of the historical context of Mohammed, and his more bloodthirsty exploits.

My question was more directed as to what you thought it was, rather than a request for info…but good looking out.

So i’m guessing you regard this as a cult, which is fine. But by definition, there are plenty of other organized religions which might fit its definition. Just saying.

But you are correct that the administration tends to keep the electorate in the dark. We, as responsible citizens, should do all we can to inform those who are left in such a state.

  • TocksNedlog

    Much ado . . .

  • tingle007

Mormons don’t explode when you piss them off. That is no excuse to harangue them, because they don’t murder over off color jokes.

    • Deborah Hallsted

So they’re easy targets, as opposed to adherents who behead people in the street. And I’m not referring to the one British soldier, as they did it -again! last week, and the press hushed it up because of “appeasement”, not to mention the cannabalism and “honor killings”.

  • RaymondSwenson

The DC metro area, where WaPo sells its papers and ads, has a higher than average concentration of Mormons who came there to attend universities and work in Congress and Federal agencies, including DOD and State. Ergo, the Mormon Temple visible from the Beltway. Mormons have been serving as heads of Federal agencies since Ezra Taft Benson, later the president of the LDS Church, served as Eisenhower’s Sec of Agriculture for 8 years. Other departments they have headed include Treasury, Interior and Bureau of Indian Affairs, EPA, HUD (George Romney), HHS, Education, Coast Guard, and senior posts like Solicitor General and chief legal counsel in State. Because of integrity Mormons are sought by FBI and because of language skills by the CIA. The WaPo offends many of its readers who are Mormons, in ways it would not do to Hispanics, gays, or Muslims. The Mormon response is to recognize that in the long run the WaPo is dying, while Mormons are growing, both locally and globally.

    • Bathing Suit Area

The difference is that there’s no organised movement to kick Mormons out of the country or treat them as second class citizens. A little mockery is the worst thing they’re really facing.

      • JerseyTea

Which group(s) are currently subjected to campaigns to kick them out of the country and being treated as second class citizens?
        Specifics please.

  • PrinceOfDorkness

Anyone that has followed the creators of the Book of Mormon (Matt Stone and Trey Parker) knows they are just as keen at poking fun at Islam. They consider all religion to be pretty goofy stuff.

And let’s be honest — Mormonism (like Islam) is pretty darn silly. The idea that Native Americans are the Lost tribes of Israel and that God lives around a star named Kolob?

  • brando

Funny thing about the Book of Mormon is the creators, who also created South Park, are certainly not afraid of making fun of liberals and Islam. At least until they made that double episode about Muhammad and Comedy Central made them take it off their site after getting threats
