The $940 Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management Act of 2013, otherwise known as the Farm Bill, has been defeated in the House of Representatives. Nearly 80 percent of the spending in the pork-laden monstrosity was set to be allocated for food stamps.

Fiscal conservatives are grateful that, for a change, common sense has prevailed:

  • SAL

    Thank God!

    • Elaine

It failed for different reasons. Left wants MORE food stamp money and right wants to cut out more pork. You know the Democrats will blame this on our do nothing Congress.. again. You know we want kids to starve, right? wink wink

  • LinTaylor

How long until the left throws their little hissy fit? Taking all bets!

    • http://aikenareaprogressive.wordpress.com/ jovan1984

You lost the bet. We’re glad that it is defeated too! If passed, the bill would have taken food from the hungry mouths of millions of children due to the devastating food stamp cuts that was in it.

      • ObamaFail

You don’t actually know what was in the bill, do you?

        • http://aikenareaprogressive.wordpress.com/ jovan1984

Actually, I do know what was in the bill. I just gave you one example above.

Two more items were a work requirement and a drug test requirement. Only 24 Democrats voted for the bill. Those three items ended up killing any hope of truly bipartisan passage — and that was before 62 Republicans decided to vote no because they thought that the food stamp cuts were not enough.

          • journogal

So you are against work and drug test requirements of those who are taking taxpayers’ money? Screw responsibility, because it the taxpayers’ money and just stick it to them. Is that correct – no accountability no nothing…just give keep increasing the food stamps rolls, surely those there are enough evil rich people (conservatives, only; not liberal rich people) to harass they are not doing enough or paying enough. Taxpayers shouldn’t keep any money they work for, and if there is fraud, so what! Food stamps are not supposed to be forever, shouldn’t there be limits? Shouldn’t there be goals to reduce the rolls; and by the way, no one is starving or going to starve. According to Michelle Obama, we are all obese. So what is it? And at what point do people begin to take responsibility for themselves and stop depending on the taxpayer to foot their bill. yes, there are some that truly need help and realize it isn’t forever, but there are some that are third or fourth generation gaming the system. Must be nice to consider taxpayers’ as an infinite piggy bank.

Heaven forbid we try to make PARENTS responsible for their own kids? How dare we? We all make sacrifices. I would spend my last dime to feed and care for my kids before I took care of my drug habit or refused to work? Food SUPLEMENT stamps are just that. A little HELP when you need it. it’s not a life style choice. People need to get off their butts and put in as much as tax payers do now.

          • http://aikenareaprogressive.wordpress.com/ jovan1984

How about make the minimum wage the living wage and adjust it upward whenever the cost of living goes up? Maybe then there won’t be so many people on Food Stamps.

Wal-Mart has a lot of people working at their stores on Food Stamps. A new proposal in California which I strongly support seeks to crack down on the unscrupulous business practices like that!

          • journogal

Raise minimum wage and screw market economy – liberals answer to everything. Yay – more businesses going out of business! Yay! Everyone on government dole, of course, no taxpayers to pay for it, but who cares.

Why is someone raising a family on a minimum wage job? Those jobs are suppose to be for those starting out, not with someone who has a child or two. It’s the market’s fault now that they haven’t try to better themselves? And as usual, the taxpayer is somewhat responsible for them, too. It’s never their fault, they are the constant victim. Sheesh! I regret being responsible; have I mad perfect decisions in life? No, but I took the consequences. How stupid of me now. I should just quit while I can and let the taxpayers take care of me. Why not, it’s the America way now. America dream=taking from others that have more.

As far as those Wal Mart workers go, why are they incapable to finding other jobs or learning skills to get better jobs, is that Wal-Mart’s fault? Does Wal-Mart chain them to their job? Yes, typical liberal, demonize a business and guess what happens, it trickles down to the consumer. But hey, it’s more people on the dole. Too bad, less money, but what do you care.

With liberals, it is always someone else’s fault. Never that person’s. It’s not their fault they didn’t take school seriously, it’s not their fault they did this or that; no, it’s either the fault of the taxpayers or some evil employer/corporation. Heck, I don’t blame people for not starting businesses now, being constantly demonized and told you are never doing enough.

Life is hard. Life is made of choices. Not everyone wins. Not everyone starts out at $100,000 job with a corner office and two assistants, but everyone has the opportunity to work toward that goal or something similar, or used to. Now everyone expects equal outcomes. Well, take a look at great socialist and communist countries to see what equal outcomes look like.

I’m curious – what happens to production and market costs when the minimum wage is raised?

          • journogal

He’s a liberal…he doesn’t care or know. He is programmed to hate businesses and think everyone should rely on the government.

“work requirement and a drug test requirement”
            Well that explains that.

OH and there it is! Everyone knows all conservatives hate kids and want them to starve! You’d just rather not worry about those hungry mouths and abort them.

        • http://aikenareaprogressive.wordpress.com/ jovan1984

Abortion is a better option than STARVING them to death. Liberals are the ONES who care about the ones ON THIS EARTH. Your agenda again and again proves you do NOT care about children once they are on this Earth. You only care about the fetus.

          • journogal

No one is starving to death. Show me someone who is starving to death that lives in America. I want to see them. So, show me some credible links, not some liberal blog. If anyone is going to be close to starving is going to be the taxpayer who has to pay for well-able body people gaming the system on welfare.

This is obviously the work of right-wing raaaaaaaaacists!!

Only $940 bucks? Assuming that’s a typo in the text at the top of the page.

It’s good to have a win every once in awhile.

  • SocraticGadfly

Actually, there’s plenty of real pork, not sham wingnut pork, in the farm bill. Why aren’t you wingnuts protesting about corporate ****socialism***** to rich corporate farms?

    • journogal

You mean like sushi rice farms? I agree…

  • calico_kitty

great job! given a proper burial.

  • Joel A. Edge

Hold the phone, didn’t more Democrats vote no than Republicans? Is my party (D) finally getting some sense?
