Michigan’s Amash was one of only two congressmen to vote against the resolution today:

Here is what Amash said:

It’s not as if Congress was voting on taking military action against North Korea. Why not go on the Congressional record condemning North Korea’s actions?

Amash has found himself in hot water with many conservatives as of late. This move isn’t likely to assuage their concerns:

Send both of the to the DMZ for 3 months; they’ll get a clue.

but, perhaps he does not see it as a thing to waste time on during the legislative session? we are dead broke, and another resolution calling the norks fools does nothing to solve OUR problems, but makes bloviating politicians feel good about not doing what we sent them there to do.

I would’ve abstained* from the vote in protest, and publicly declared it a waste of time.

      *–By simply not showing up.

You would have voted ‘not present’?

    • TocksNedlog

Perhaps the congressman should do his own apologisting.

Voting “no” on the resolution – which Congress has already “wasted time” on debating, etc — doesn’t actually mean what you suggest, however. The way to convey that message (if that was his intent — which it isn’t, he’s already explained that he voted no because “isolationism is bad”) would have is for him to state all that. He didn’t. So — um, try again?

Let’s look at it this way: what does widespread condemnation do in the case of North Korea? As past experience shows, nothing. North Korea is still a Stalinist state and a buffer zone between China (which supports North Korea and owns American debt) and South Korea. Concrete action has to be taken to make North Korea accountable not only for its war-mongering but for its human rights abuses, as well. Treat North Korea like a spoiled child. Don’t just isolate it, freeze its bank accounts and SPEND ITS CASH! How can Kim Jong-Un buy more weapons? Then punish China and Russia- North Korea’s “parents”- for supporting this global enfant terrible. Amash has no clue how to handle North Korea, true, but in the scheme of things, condemnation is just like clucking one’s tongue. It’s a noise and that’s it.

Do we have 2 more RINOs identified? Epic failure by both representatives.

When do we get to vote on condemning the do-nothing Congress and Senate?

    • waltzingmtilda

We keep trying it every 2 years or so…

Interesting to see how Amash votes on Irans Nuke issue and the Israel/Palestinian conflict.

This didn’t come as a surprise to me. Amash is a big Ron Paul fan. He voted ‘present’ when the bill came up to defund Planned Parenthood.
