Self-righteous prat Richard Dawkins was among the many who helped propagate the false story about gun-rights advocates heckling Sandy Hook father Neil Heslin. And when he was called out, he balked at the idea of issuing a retraction.

Turns out he wasn’t quite finished making an ass of himself:

Class act, all the way.

  • Michelle

“Machine guns” are banned and have been for a long time. Poor Dicky, facts are hard.

    • NachoCheese (D)

Well, not “banned”, just extremely hard to get and prohibitively expensive.

      • Michelle

Not banned? What gun store can I walk into and purchase one?

        • NachoCheese (D)

          Not banned.

All you need to do is apply for a Class III weapons permit, pass the required background check, then locate someone willing to sell a pre-1986 machine gun…considering that no machine gun made after 1986 is allowed, there is a limited supply, so expect to pay a premium. Once you have located a seller, you pay the $200 tax stamp transfer fee and it’s yours. Oh one last thing…you have to be willing to surrender your right to privacy, as the ATF is then empowered to search your house (or registered place where you house said machine gun) on little or no notice and without warrant.

Like I said not “banned” (notice the quotation marks).

          • Michelle

They are banned when I cannot walk into a store and purchase one, but rather have to track down one made prior to 1986 and jump through a bunch of hoops to get one. So using your logic, is marijuana not banned in my state just because a special circumstance of medical necessity means you can have it? No, it’s banned.

          • NachoCheese (D)

Yes, that kind of not banned :)

          • Michelle

And yet, it is banned because I can’t just walk out and score some pot without breaking a law. :-) (Not that I would, I’ve no use for drugs) We’re kind of agreeing, kind of disagreeing on what “banned” means.

          • NachoCheese (D)

Oh there’s no disagreement, I was just yanking your chain. :)

So yes, for all intents and purposes they are banned for most citizens. Still doesn’t mean I can’t want a nice M2 .50 cal!!!! Ahhh Ma Deuce :)

          • Michelle

DO NOT yank my chain or I’ll have my Senators ban that too! 😉

          • kenai

Yes, you are essentially correct, Michelle. The purpose of ‘sensible gun regulations’ is to effectively ban guns.

          • http://www.theconservativevoices.com/ dmacleo

so M16 made after 1986 is what?
            banned to the public.
not banned to the feds/state employees.

(I have edited/removed the beginning of my post as it was simply a re-hash of Nacho’s post–the following still stands).
          .
However, if I understand the context of your post correctly Michelle, then we are actually on the same page. I believe buying a fully-automatic weapon should be as easy as it is to obtain a semi-auto one.
          .
It wouldn’t be my perosnal choice however, as I believe a well-trained (or well-practiced) person with a semi-auto is more deadly/accurate than one with a full-auto counterpart. I personally believe that unless you are in a very specific combat-zone situation, full-auto fire is wasteful and innacurate (and very expensive).
          .
That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be able to own one if you want.
          .
The larger point is: Dawkins doesn’t know what the hell he is talking about. And on that, I know we are in agreement.

          • Blake Waymire

Actually, full-auto fire is wasteful and inaccurate even in a warzone. Some newer assault rifles don’t even have a “full-auto” setting, but rather come with semi- and 3-round burst settings, and most now have a 3-round burst in addition to semi- and fully-automatic. The majority of soldiers still fire on semi-auto when they’re shooting to kill. Full-auto is for keeping the enemy’s head down and rarely hits anyone.

          • Michelle

Corey – we’re in agreement on all you said.

I remember going to a gun store in Kansas to buy a man-sized target for an art project; this was 1986, and they had machine guns under the counter for about $1200. But that was the same year they passed the law.

Keep in mind, last year he had this to say: “Those people who think sexual abuse is a black-or-white, all-or-none category are incapable of clear, logical thought.”

Also consider the fact that Dawkins has been advertising his debate tomorrow with the former Archbishop of Canterbury… and yet, curiously, his twitter account appears completely silent on this awkward little quote from last August!

  • Joe Molinari

Wish the feds would allow me to own a machine gun. They banned them many many decades ago. Now i own a semi auto rifle and handguns. These libs are just plain clueless on so many issues.

    • kenai

It’s legal to own a machine gun in the US. You have to jump through the background check hoops and pay a $200. transfer fee on the weapon. However, Bush the 1st closed the registry in eighty six, limiting the available supply of automatics so prices have skyrocketed. Even an old Sten gun that cost less than $4.00 to manufacture is selling for $3000.00 and up. Simply Google ‘machine guns for sale’ and you can get an idea about what’s available and prices.

    Dawkins needs to shut up!

Funny how an athiest like Dawkins can have so much in common with members of the Westboro Baptist Church, you just can’t fake that kind of intolerance of other viewpoints. You’ve got to feel that bigotry right down to your boots!

    • http://www.awpn.net/ Celestial Time

People like Dawkins are the reason I don’t associate with other atheists. Someone that self-righteous, self-absorbed and militantly clinging to falsehoods couldn’t possibly be expected to ever admit realities unless they “came up with the idea first.” Remove Dawkins from his inflated ego and he surprisingly has very little to offer in terms of rational debate.

Is this guy relevant in ANYTHING anymore? and why’s he talking about Jesus? He doesn’t even think he exist(s)ed.

  • Krazy Kent

If you’re gonna make fun, Richard Dawkins, at least learn the proper redneck vernacular….
    It’s a “fanger”, not a “finger”. Geeez…..
And yes, I thank Jesus for that.

This is a perfect demonstration of the child-like mindset at the core of liberalism. Whenever a liberal is presented with facts or an opinion that doesn’t fit their narrative they revert back to childhood by throwing temper tantrums, name calling or making immature jokes mocking stereotypes.

  • NeoKong

    What a jerk.
The simple truth is however he would never have the guts to shoot his mouth off like that in a bar in Alabama or Texas.
If he did he would lose a few teeth.

What’s this? The man that’s been credited with coining the term “meme” is stereotyping gun owners as ignorant, Bible thumping rednecks?
    Oh, irony.

No, Dawkins — if Jesus had meant for YOU to have guns, he’d have made you an AMERICAN not a simple-minded Limey sheep.

Seriously, I find these British people who feel free to opine on our Constitution simply amazing. We had that fight already: their side lost. And they can’t stand it — hence their attempt to influence and corrupt us. Too bad about 51% of the electorate is stupid enough to fall for it.

BTW — no coincidence the “hero” among the atheist-set is a BIG Obama fan. That’s certainly fitting.
