During his joint press conference today with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, President Obama managed to get himself a little tongue-tied:

Why yes. Yes he did.

Sure is. Yet, shockingly, the lapdog media appears to have missed the whole thing. Wonder what’s up with that? They certainly didn’t slouch when it came to pointing out George W. Bush’s gaffes. Or Sarah Palin’s. What makes President Obama so special?

Oh. Right.

Like people who say “utilize” in everyday speech instead of “use.”

Decapacitate? How about “weaken” as in President Obama has weakened the United States of America.

Notice salvagesalvage, one of the nastier trolls around, is citing wikipedia as if it were an actual dictionary or encyclopedia. No wonder the fool can’t make a decent argument.

          • lainer51

yes wikipedia is the “dictionary for libs” because it can be edited to serve an agenda, hence, it is not a real source. Something like they want the constitution to be.

        • http://pennyrobinsonfanclub.net/ PennyRobinsonFanClub

Then what kind of a crazy wingnut are you?

  • neoxide

I’m a conservative but this is a stupid article/gaffe. Capacitate is a word. It’s not decapitate. Capacitate means to enable something and decapacitate means to prevent the enabling of something. In this case, he is saying he will prevent Al Qaeda’s capability to do something – in this context I assume commit terrorism.

We can do better than this, fellow conservatives.

    • $36544368

Ah, but words do have funny meanings sometimes…for example, when a person passes away, they are ‘deceased’…which makes no sense, because ‘cease’ basically means to stop, no? If so, then literally, ‘deceased’ would mean one had passed away but is no longer dead. Or what about ‘legally drunk’…if you’re legally drunk, then why would you get a DUI? One would think you’d be ‘illegally drunk’ in order to get a DUI. In any case, the president has made spelling or grammatical errors in other tweets…if the president isn’t sending out his own tweets, the person who is should have his/her tweets proofread before they’re sent out. It makes the president look ridiculous…but then he can do that himself in other areas of his presidency quite easily. I’d be embarrassed if I were BO.

  • nc

Typical libbie response. Our side makes little verbal gaffes and it’s a SNL punchline that gets turned into “proof” of stupidity. Their side does it and we MUST NOT MAKE FUN of an innocent and harmless mistake.

Well, we’ve had it with that stupid game.

  • http://pennyrobinsonfanclub.net/ PennyRobinsonFanClub

OK folks, lets be entirely fair. Although Merriam Webster does not recognize the word “decapacitate”, the OED does, but in a limited sense. It has a coupleof entries for “capacitate”

    1. a.1.a trans. To endow with capacity for or to do (something); to render capable; to qualify, fit.

    and more startlingly:

b.1.b Physiol. To cause (a spermatozoon) to undergo capacitation (see next).

As for ‘decapacitation,’ the ONLY definition given is this:

The process of removing the effects of capacitation; the action of decapacitating a spermatozoon.

1961 Federation Proc. XX. i. i. 418/2 (heading) A study of the decapacitation factor present in rabbit seminal plasma. 1969 New Scientist 31 July 234/1 Such sperm were said to have suffered decapacitation. 1970 Nature 11 July 182/2 To determine whether these compounds would behave like ‘decapacitation factor’ from seminal plasma, that is whether they would be absorbed by sperm and reverse the capacitated state, the following experiment was carried out.

So {decaˈpacitate} v. trans., to deprive (a spermatozoon) of its ability to penetrate the zona pellucida of the ovum which it gains by capacitation; decaˈpacitated ppl. a.
